Who we are

Founded in 2019, Marvel Fusion is Europe’s leading fusion energy company, uniting 75 scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs across our locations in Munich and Colorado.

Backed by over €385 million in public and private funding, we’re driven by a shared mission: to deliver clean, abundant energy to the world.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:

  • Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
  • Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
  • Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
  • Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default
The impact you will make

We are looking for a highly capable Mechanical engineer to join our team and take the lead in designing and optimizing large, ultra-stable optical mounts for high-energy, ultra-short-pulse laser systems. This role requires expertise in mechanical design, vibration and thermal analysis and precision kinematics. You will collaborate closely with optical physicists and systems engineers to ensure the structural stability and adjustability of critical laser components under demanding operating conditions.

Your responsibilities
  • Design and optimize large optical mounts capable of maintaining stability under thermal loads, mechanical vibrations and environmental changes
  • Apply principles of multi-degree-of-freedom kinematics (spatial and angular) to develop mounts that support precise and repeatable alignment
  • Select appropriate materials, threads, springs and mechanical features to handle high loads and achieve fine adjustment sensitivity
  • Integrate motorized or manual adjustment mechanisms into mounts, accounting for force transmission, backlash and precision
  • Use CAD tools and mechanical modeling software to develop and iterate on designs in collaboration with physicists and systems engineers
What you bring
  • Proven experience designing large, stable optical mounts or optomechanical assemblies for high-energy laser systems
  • Strong understanding of mechanical kinematics, including angular and spatial degrees of freedom and how to manage them in precision systems
  • Proficiency in CAD and mechanical modeling (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor or similar), including thermal and vibrational analysis techniques
  • Experience selecting and integrating adjustment mechanisms (threads, springs, flexures, motors) for alignment of optical components
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with optical engineers and physicists to meet mechanical and optical performance targets
What sets you apart
  • Prior experience with ultra-short-pulse laser systems or other high-stability optical platforms
  • Familiarity with the mechanical implications of optical tolerances (e.g., wavefront distortion, grating stability)
  • Background in the manufacturing or assembly of precision optical mounts or stages
  • Comfort writing documentation or specifications for mechanical interfaces and adjustment procedures
What we offer

Our mission is motivation enough for many. But we also support our team with benefits that foster wellbeing and growth:

  • Public transport reimbursement
  • EGYM Wellpass fitness club access
  • Complimentary health insurance
  • Professional development support
  • Company pension plan
  • Healthy office snacks
