Mechanical Engineer, Innovation

SOLV Energy is an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and solar services provider for utility solar, high voltage substation and energy storage markets across North America.

Job Description Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer, Innovation will lead the design, prototyping, and fabrication of mechanical systems that drive automation and innovation across our construction and operations workflows. This hands-on role will translate ideas into functional equipment that improves the efficiency, safety, and scalability of utility-scale solar deployment.
This role is based full-time in our office in San Diego, CA. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Job Description:

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

• Design, prototype, and build mechanical systems and components for automation and field efficiency.

• Rapidly iterate designs to achieve optimal performance, cost, and manufacturability.

• Develop and implement innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of utility scale solar power plant installation and deployment.

• Conduct thorough design analysis and hands-on validation using sound engineering practices.

• Participate in field trials of robotics and other new/unproven technology

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar

• Experience with prototyping, production, and troubleshooting of automated systems.

• CAD proficiency including 3D modeling & 2D drafting (SolidWorks preferred).

• Experience with static structural finite element analysis software (ANSYS/ABAQUS/SolidWorks Simulation).

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. 

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

• Commitment to safety

• Strong sense of urgency and ownership

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

• Ability to travel to project sites, up to a couple times a month.

$70,200.00 - $85,995.00
