Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer III – Systems Engineering is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing advanced robotic actuator systems, including rotary and linear motion mechanisms, for humanoid, industrial, and service robotics applications. This role leads systems engineering activities throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept development and requirements definition through system design, integration, verification, validation, and production support. The Mechanical Engineer III collaborates with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure robotic systems meet performance, quality, reliability, and manufacturability objectives while delivering innovative, high-performance solutions. 


Key Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed): 

  • Define system architecture, operational concepts, and technical requirements for advanced product development.
  • Develop and manage system requirements, interface definitions, specifications, and requirements traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead system integration across mechanical, electrical, software, controls, and manufacturing disciplines.
  • Conduct system trade studies, technical analyses, and risk assessments to optimize performance, cost, schedule, and reliability.
  • Develop and execute system verification and validation (V&V) strategies, including prototype integration, testing, and performance evaluation.
  • Lead technical design reviews and ensure configuration management, technical baseline integrity, and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Prepare and maintain system engineering documentation, including specifications, interface control documents, verification reports, and technical presentations.
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to support product development, manufacturing readiness, production transition, and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering methodologies to drive product innovation and improve system performance.


Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in product development and design.

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Systems Engineering Principles and Lifecycle Management.
  • System Architecture and Functional Decomposition.
  • Requirements Development, Management, and Traceability.
  • System Integration and Interface Management.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Systems Integration (Mechanical, Electrical, Software, and Controls).
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize program deliverables from multiple sources and customers.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent verbal and technical communication skills required.

 

Working Conditions: This position operates in a mix of office environment, test lab and test track. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.


Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer. 
  • Ability to work in a test lab environment
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and bending as needed to perform duties.


Remote Work: Primarily onsite and limited travel.
