Summary / ObjectivePerforms a wide variety of complex mechanical engineering design, analysis, integration, and documentation tasks requiring substantial knowledge of engineering theory, principles, and practical application. Responsibilities include the development of electronic, electromechanical, and optical equipment/systems for military, government, and commercial applications. This position requires strong mechanical engineering fundamentals combined with the ability and willingness to work across the broader engineering design and analysis space. The ideal candidate is mechanically focused but intellectually curious about electrical, manufacturing, thermal, structural, systems, reliability, and integration disciplines. The role includes mechanical design, electromechanical packaging and layout, Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigation/support, design analysis, documentation generation, and participation throughout the entire product lifecycle from concept through sustainment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Individual contributor operating with minimal supervision under technical leadership on complex military and government programs.
- Plan, analyze, design, test, document, and support hardware of moderate-to-high complexity.
- Develop mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements, applicable industry and military standards, environmental requirements, manufacturability constraints, and program objectives.
- Perform electromechanical assembly layout and integration activities including enclosure design, component packaging, cable routing considerations, thermal management, access/serviceability, and manufacturing accommodation.
- Participate in and support Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, failure analysis activities, corrective action implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Apply engineering judgment to balance technical performance, cost, schedule, manufacturability, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
- Generate and maintain engineering documentation including:
- 3D CAD models
- Engineering drawings
- Assembly documentation
- Bills of Material (BOM)
- Test documentation
- Technical reports
- CDRL/SDRL deliverables
- Utilize CAD and Product Data Management (PDM/EPDM) systems to create, control, and maintain technical data packages.
- Collaborate with electrical, systems, manufacturing, test, configuration management, quality, and supply chain teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Conduct or support thermal, structural, tolerance stack-up, and mechanical fit/function analyses using analytical methods and/or MCAE tools.
- Support prototype builds, integration activities, qualification testing, troubleshooting, and production transition efforts.
- Participate in design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and customer interactions as required.
- Support Material Review Board (MRB) activities including analysis and disposition of internal and supplier nonconforming hardware.
- Contribute to engineering estimates, risk assessments, and proposal activities for new business opportunities.
- Maintain compliance with applicable company processes, government regulations, export controls, and ITAR requirements.
- Protect company intellectual property and sensitive technical information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in mechanical or electromechanical product development.
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawing creation.
- Familiarity with mechanical fabrication and manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, welded assemblies, and electromechanical integration techniques.
- Familiarity with RCCA methodologies, structured problem-solving processes, and corrective action implementation.
- Understanding of engineering standards and practices including ANSI, ASME, ISO, IEEE, and MIL-STD documentation and design environments.
- Experience working within controlled engineering release and configuration management processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional technical teams.
- Experience supporting defense, aerospace, or government programs.
- Experience with thermal and structural analysis tools.
- Familiarity with environmental qualification requirements such as shock, vibration, thermal, and ingress protection considerations.
- Experience with PDM/PLM/EPDM systems.
- Familiarity with DFM/DFA principles and production transition support.
- Exposure to systems engineering, electrical integration, or embedded hardware development environments.
- Experience supporting prototype, integration, and test activities in a hands-on environment.
- Mechanically strong but broadly curious across engineering disciplines.
- Comfortable working in ambiguous or evolving technical environments.
- Self-directed and capable of managing priorities across multiple concurrent efforts.
- Hands-on mindset with willingness to engage directly with hardware, integration, and troubleshooting activities.
- Strong ownership mentality with focus on solving problems collaboratively rather than operating strictly within disciplinary boundaries.
