Job Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with Plumbing experience to join our team at Ardmore Roderick. As a Mechanical Engineer, you join a team of buildings solutions experts working to solve our client’s ever evolving project needs.  This role is intended for engineers with 1 to 5 years of experience who are looking to continue developing their technical design skills while working closely with senior engineers and project managers. This opportunity will be located in our Chicago, IL office.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support plumbing and fire suppression design from concept through construction documents under the direction of senior engineers and project managers
  • Develop plumbing and fire suppression drawings, schedules, details, and BIM models using Revit and AutoCAD
  • Perform plumbing calculations, design plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage, natural gas, compressed air, and lab/medical gases
  • Coordinate plumbing and fire suppression with architectural, structural, civil, HVAC, and electrical disciplines
  • Review design work for compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards
  • Support preparation of permit drawings, specifications, narratives, calculations, and other technical documentation
  • Participate in interdisciplinary coordination meetings and help resolve routing, equipment, space planning, and constructability issues
  • Conduct field surveys, document existing conditions, and support construction administration activities including RFIs, submittals, site observations, and punch lists
  • Use Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud (Forma), and other collaboration tools to support design reviews and project coordination
  • Support project managers and discipline leads with budgets, schedules, task planning, and quality control reviews
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in plumbing systems design
  • Experience with application of building codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD for mechanical design
  • Familiarity with general mechanical engineering calculations
  • Ability to coordinate across disciplines and communicate technical information clearly
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to support multiple projects and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • EIT/CPD certification preferred, or active path toward EIT/CPD certification and eventual PE licensure
  • Experience with City of Chicago Department of Buildings permit documents and local Illinois authorities having jurisdiction
  • Experience with HVAC design beyond basic coordination, including HVAC load calculations, equipment selections, ductwork sizing, hydronic piping sizing, ventilation calculations, and energy code support
  • Experience with COMcheck or other energy code compliance documentation
  • Experience with mission critical, public sector, higher education, industrial, commercial, residential, or infrastructure-related building projects
  • Field experience with existing condition surveys, installation reviews, troubleshooting, commissioning, or punch list activities

Salary Range: $89,960-120,016, Ardmore Roderick is providing the compensation range that the company believes it might pay and/or offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
