The Design Engineering function supports business needs and continuous improvement efforts through appropriate technical product and engineering principle development of employees and management.
Job Description and Duties:
- Qualifications:
- Proficient in the use of computers and cad software with emphasis on SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design uses.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in the production of mechanical and electromechanical models and drawings.
- Skilled in verbal and written communication, composition and grammar.
- Proficient mathematical skills in arithmetic, geometry, algebra and other computation tools that support the designer skills.
- Ability to respond and adjust to rapidly changing priorities, select appropriate resolution paths either independently or in consultation with Design Engineer.
- Skilled in the layout and interface of technical components, detail instructions, parts and complex assemblies requiring fabrication, machining or assembly.
- Able to apply identified industry standards routinely in assigned work.
- Thorough and accurate
Associates degree and work experience (one year min) in a relevant engineering discipline; or equivalent work experience (4 years min) demonstrating competency in mechanical machinery design. The successful candidate will be able to apply individual creativity, advanced drafting/modeling techniques and a thorough knowledge of practical fabrication and machining techniques to create complex mechanical designs and execute layouts of simple and complex products and equipment. Areas of proficiency should include:
Principle Duties:
- Assist in the planning for the development of product models and drawings, by reviewing sketches, descriptions, specifications and supporting documents.
- Create 3D models for design feasibility and interference detection. Produce 2D working drawings from 3D Models, sectionals, and auxiliaries.
- Investigates engineering design problems after receiving only general technical direction, the design goal problem, general method of processing, or engineering advice on related theoretical aspects to be taken into account.
- Discuss equipment requirements and design developments with vendors and subcontractors, as appropriate, to ensure design requirements are met.
- Prepares supporting information by developing bills of materials, standard parts and fasteners.
- Documents work by recording data and drawings; updating data bases.
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explores opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing data and conferring with engineers.
- Supervises Design Engineering Mechanical Designers and Cad Technicians
- Delegates and prioritizes departmental Mechanical Design and Cad assignments
- Provides over site in collaboration with Engineering Manager, Lead Unit Design Engineer and Design Engineers.
- Checks drawing as authorized in accordance with QIP-4
- Provides employee user his supervision training, mentoring and counseling
- Develops and documents processes in collaboration with Engineering Manager and Lead Unit Design Engineer
- Process improvement
- Timecards sign off
- Ensure all quality, safety, department, and business training is current
- Identify and specify additional training courses for employees to succeed in position
Mechanical Design - Will support engineering project efforts working with Design Engineers in their contractual responsibility to translate the design specification and specified code requirements into the requisite product design. These duties will include:
Product Development - As determined by Corporate Planning and Engineering Manager participate in development projects for the expansion and improvement of existing products and new products.
SalesTechnical Support - Assist Application Sales and After Market Sales support for proposal presentation.
Manufacturing Support - provide technical assistance to the manufacturing floor, as required to achieve specified design requirements and resolution of conflicts that arise in attaining the specified design or contractual specifications.
Lead Mechanical Designer – (reports to Design Engineering Supervisor) Will carry additional supervisory responsibilities:

Skills Required
