Job Description

As a Mechanical Designer, you will apply a strong foundation in mechanical design with system level reasoning to develop AMRs. Working as an individual technical contributor within a cross‑functional robotics team, you will influence system architecture and then transform high-level concepts into highly functional and reliable mechanical subsystems that integrate seamlessly with electrical and software subsystems. You will work hands-on with the team to resolve complex system level issues through detailed root cause analysis and debugging. You will help ensure the system meets applicable requirements across the full AMR product lifecycle, from concept through deployment and sustained operation, while always looking for ways to improve our processes and workflows. You will report to Manager, Mechanical Systems and have a hybrid schedule working in Waterloo, ON.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design of AMR mechanical subsystems such as chassis structures, suspension systems, payload structures, and safety-related mechanical features by developing detailed CAD models, assemblies, drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions
  • Perform engineering calculations and analysis including structural analysis, fatigue and durability assessments, tolerance analysis, thermal analysis, torque calculations, and vibration analysis
  • Conduct hands-on validation and debugging, including the design and support of prototype builds, the investigation of failures and root cause analysis, and the development of product improvements based on test and field data
  • Support the Supply Chain and Production teams by collaborating with suppliers on component qualification, implementing corrective actions for manufacturing issues, supporting production ramp-up, and participating in the ECO process
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical documentation such as service bulletins, standard operating procedures, and maintenance manuals
The Essentials - You Will Have:
  • Bachelors Degree in relevant field.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future for this job opening.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
  • Typically requires minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • An undergraduate university Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent
  • Advanced-level CAD experience with SolidWorks, especially for sheet metal and CNC parts
  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical drawings (including GD&T), BOM management, tolerance stack-ups, and product lifecycle management systems
  • Experience designing products with a focus on manufacturability, assembly, reliability, serviceability, and cost optimization, not just functional performance
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM
  • Experience with FEA and other simulation activities
  • Experience with mobile robotics, autonomous systems, industrial equipment, or vehicle design
  • Experience with reliability engineering, safety-related design, or environmental testing
  • Experience designing or modeling kinematic systems
  • Experience with electromechanical integration, especially for sensors and motors
What We Offer:
  • Health Insurance including Medical and Dental
  • Health Care Spending Account (HCSA – dependent on the plan chosen)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Retirement plans
  • Paid Time off
  • Volunteering Time off
  • Employer Savings Plan Matching (includes RRSP, TFSA, and EPSP)
  • Employer Paid DC Pension
  • Maternity and Parental Leave Top-Up
  • Fitness Reimbursement Program
  • Flexible Work Schedule

For this role, the Base Salary Compensation is $92,720 - $139,080.00 CAD Annually. Actual pay will be based on factors such as skills, knowledge, education, and experience.
