The Role
Design and develop mechanical systems for enclosure structures and payload integration; perform FEA and simulations; produce CAD models, assemblies, and specifications; oversee fabrication, assembly, and testing; conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with space environmental standards.
Summary Generated by Built In
- Design and develop mechanical systems for enclosure structures, including the payload integration platforms and mechanisms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define mechanical requirements and integrate subsystems into the overall system design.
- Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and other simulations to evaluate the structural integrity of designs against operational loads.
- Develop and maintain detailed design documentation, including CAD models, assemblies, and technical specifications.
- Oversee the fabrication and assembly of mechanical components, and coordinate testing to validate design performance.
- Conduct design reviews and evaluations to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 1+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within the aerospace or satellite industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks) for 3D modeling and mechanical design.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools (e.g., Calculix, PrePoMax) for structural evaluation and optimization.
- In-depth knowledge of materials used in aerospace applications and the ability to select appropriate materials based on thermal and mechanical requirements.
- Familiarity with environmental testing standards for space applications, including thermal vacuum testing, vibration testing, and shock testing.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to design challenges.
