Join a team shaping the future of energy innovation. At Hitachi Energy, we’re seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support our Instrument Transformers business in Richland, MS. In this role, you’ll bring complex engineering challenges to life—designing, testing, and validating specialty transformer technologies that power industries around the world.
You’ll be hands-on in the full product lifecycle, from concept to prototype to final documentation, helping us deliver solutions that drive reliability, safety, and performance. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary experts across global factories and technology centers, sharpening your technical skills while influencing meaningful engineering outcomes.

How you’ll make an impact
Design mechanical components and systems for new transformer products.
Develop testing processes and validate prototype performance.
Build working prototypes for internal and customer demonstrations.
Lead R&D and product development activities aligned with safety, cost, and quality targets.
Perform engineering calculations, including seismic capacity verification.
Create and review bills of materials, drawings, and technical specifications.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, vendors, and contractors.
Maintain thorough project documentation and support timely execution.
Your Background
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of industry experience.
Work authorization to be employed in the United States.
Knowledge of IEEE, IEC, and relevant international standards.
Experience with PTC tools (Creo, Windchill) and mechanical simulations preferred.
Background in electromechanical product development or transformers is a plus.
Strong communication, technical, analytical, and project‑management skills.
