Execute tests and deliver results and data in the fields of CAN/CCP/LIN/FlexRay datalogging, OBD Diagnostic monitoring, Fuel Economy, NVH, Thermo and Analog (pressure/voltage/current) and Active Safety data logging to project customers for testing projects nationwide involving Mercedes-Benz passenger car and van test fleets in the United States. Maintain data logging equipment, results and measurement data delivery from customer vehicle research projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all measurement equipment in the US durability test vehicle fleets and implement solutions as needed to repair data logger systems in durability vehicles, including coordination and rollout of new signal configurations.
  • Maintain documentation of all measurement hardware and sensors in all required databases.
  • Monitor onboard diagnostic system loggers including troubleshooting to ensure automatic readouts (Diagmera, Shorttests) are performed and exported to the MBRDNA servers.
  • Build up of new measurement systems into test cars including create work orders for workshop, coordinate measurement plan requirements with customer and order sensor and measurement module hardware.
  • Execute tests and deliver results and data to MB customer departments in the fields of Thermo and Analog (pressure/voltage/current/accel) sensors, CAN/CCP/LIN/FlexRay, OBD, Diagnostics, Active Safety, Fuel Economy, NVH.
  • Active participation in continuous process improvement for internal and external data logger and measurement data handling processes..

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Automotive, or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Analytic or systems engineering knowledge: Experience in troubleshooting of data logger equipment and database systems in order to identify logger issues and to analyze and determine failure root causes and find solutions.
  • Diagnostic and Systems Engineering Knowledge: Data loggers and Diagnostic tools. Ability to interpret diagnostic data, knowledge of ECU design and ECU SW functionality as part of a vehicle system.
  • Automotive Knowledge: Knowledge of current automobile technology, vehicle electrical and onboard diagnostics and communication architectures, assembly structure, modules and parts. Knowledge of vehicle functions.
  • Interpersonal and Team skills: Work successfully in intercultural environment, search and gather crucial expert knowledge in a complex organization structure and work with engineers, workshop and 3rd party service providers on troubleshooting.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate structured and transparent verbally and in writing. German language skills favored to read and understand project requirements and prototype vehicle documentation often only available in German.
  • Frequent use of speech, vision, hearing, use of hands for computer use and presentations. Frequent sitting, standing and reaching with hands. Driving vehicles on the road, test trips, proving grounds.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good project management skills.
  • Ability to test drive vehicles.
  • Experience in research and development and/or test engineering, of minimum 1-3 years, preferably in automotive industry.
  • Master’s degree with emphasis in Mechatronics Engineering.

This position may involve access to export-controlled technology, hardware, or software under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), 15 C.F.R. Parts 730-774 and possibly technical data, defense articles and defense services subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), 22 C.F.R. Parts 120-130. As such, Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America may be required to obtain an export license or authorization in accordance with United States law.
