MBA Summer Associate, Commercial
The Vertex MBA Summer Associate Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. You will be working closely with and learning from some of the brightest people in the industry. Qualifications
- Enrolled in an accredited business school program
- 4 to 6 years of work experience prior to their MBA program
Functional areas in which we typically have opportunities for our MBA Internships include:
Global Insights, Analytics, and Commercial Operations (GIACO):
- The Global Insights Analytics & Commercial Operations (GIACO) organization within Commercial provides many critical functions key to the success of the business. Key areas include primary marketing research and/or real world data analytics to generate actionable insights for the business. The GIACO team also provides forecast and analytical support for Vertex CF and pipeline programs cross-functionally to track and communicate business performance and create performance “dashboards” and visualization tools.
Global Commercial Strategy:
- The Global Commercial Strategy (GCS) organization is a bridge between research & development (R&D) and the regions. The GCS leads cross-functional teams to successfully commercialize new, transformative medicines for patients across multiple disease areas and geographies. To help prepare the pipeline for success, the GCS organization focuses on several deliverables including market and commercial opportunity understanding & insights, target product profiles, input into evidence generation plans, generic and brand names, brand attributes, and key global messages.
Guidance & Patient Support (GPS):
- Guidance and Patient Support (GPS) provides direct support to patients in the United States who are prescribed Vertex medicines to ensure they can access their therapy, are educated on Vertex products, and stay on track with their treatment plan. GPS includes a team of ~100 Patient Support Specialists (PSS), plus two functions that support the PST:
- The GPS Operations Team works to drive and improve program operations (Specialty Pharmacy, Quality and Compliance, Access and Reimbursement, and Systems) to best support the PST and patients.
- The GPS Patient Experience Team (PXT) drives patient centric communications that deliver adherence and access support and to promote long term patient engagement, as well as driving patient focused analyses.
Global Value & Access Strategy (GVAS)
- Global Value & Access Strategy (GVAS) is a key commercial function that ensures transformative Vertex therapies are appropriately funded and ultimately make it into the hands of the patients around the world. The GVAS team works cross-functionally and across regions to ensure the payer view is represented in commercial and development plans across the lifecycle. Early-stage, we assess what evidence is required globally to demonstrate value. Late-stage, the team develops value communications and pricing & market access strategies to optimize access.
New Product Planning:
- The North America New Product Planning team within Commercial leads development and execution of marketing strategy for pipeline assets in the US & Canada. This includes identifying market trends impacting customer engagement and evaluating innovative customer-facing solutions or external partnerships for pipeline assets.
