Background

At New Business Audio, we specialize in developing IP Audio devices and an advanced audio distribution system that allows for synchronized playback across multiple speakers. As part of our commitment to innovation and security, we are increasingly adopting Rust alongside C in our development processes. This shift is driven by Rust's robust safety features, which help prevent common vulnerabilities, ensuring our systems are both efficient and secure.

Goal

Develop a cost-effective process to translate C code to idiomatic Rust code, facilitating the rewriting of legacy packages from C to Rust. Key questions could be, but not limited to:

• What are the most effective strategies for ensuring the translated Rust code maintains the performance and efficiency of the original C code?
• How can we automate the parts of the translation process to reduce manual effort and minimize the introduction of errors?

Educational background & Useful skills
Master’s or Bachelor student in computer science engineering or similar. Experience with development on Linux, C, Rust, embedded systems.
