Job Responsibilities:

Modern software delivery environments rely on a growing number of credentials, tokens, certificates, and access mechanisms distributed across source control platforms, CI/CD systems, artifact repositories, and other connected tools. While organizations increasingly adopt centralized credential management solutions such as HashiCorp Vault, the systems consuming these credentials often maintain their own independent credential stores. This creates duplicated credential data, fragmented security controls, and operational challenges when credentials need to be rotated and synchronized.

In this thesis, you will investigate and develop a solution that enables automated rotation and synchronization of credentials across heterogeneous delivery systems while maintaining service continuity and minimizing security risks. The work includes researching credential lifecycle management, designing a secure synchronization architecture, implementing a proof-of-concept solution, and validating its behavior under realistic failure conditions.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers within DevOps, cybersecurity, and software development, contributing to a highly relevant challenge in modern software delivery and platform security.

Expected Outcome

The thesis aims to develop a credential rotation and synchronization engine that treats a centralized credential store as the authoritative source and continuously enforces and reconciles credential states across multiple consuming systems.

Expected deliverables include:

  • A declarative framework defining credentials, consumers, and rotation policies.

  • An automated credential rotation process that maintains service continuity and supports rollback scenarios.

  • Detection and management of unauthorized or out-of-band credential modifications.

The thesis is expected to contribute both practical and scientific insights into secure credential management and continuity-preserving credential rotation across distributed software delivery environments.

Qualifications

You are a curious and motivated student with a strong analytical mindset and an interest in solving complex technical problems. You enjoy taking initiative, working both independently and as part of a team, and communicating your ideas clearly. Most importantly, you are passionate about software engineering and eager to contribute to solutions that are scalable, reliable, and built to last.

Experience with any of the following is considered an advantage:

  • Master's program in Computer Science

  • HashiCorp Vault or other credential management platforms

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Cloud-native technologies and Kubernetes

  • Security architecture and threat modeling

  • CI/CD automation and DevOps tooling

  • Distributed systems and platform engineering
