About this opportunity:
Ericsson Enterprise Wireless Solutions is at the forefront of wireless WAN infrastructure innovation. As part of our WWAN Engineering organization, we are seeking an experienced RF engineer to help us continue our rapid growth and our enviable track record of creating devices that "that just work." You will work with a small, growing team of talented and experienced hardware engineers developing state-of-the-art Enterprise Router products that include Cellular, Wi-Fi, GNSS, and Bluetooth radios requiring multiple antennas coexistent in a single housing.
What you will do:
• You will help define and own end-to-end RF architecture for routers using Qualcomm chipset based 5G modules (SDX75, SDX85 examples), Wi-Fi, BT and GNSS chips.
• Translate product requirements (bands, MIMO, throughput, carrier needs) into RF topology and architecture. Own antenna-to-modem complete RF link budget and performance, including direct responsibility for modem-side RF front-end design trade-offs such as insertion loss, linearity, noise figure, and isolation.
• You will specify antenna requirements, collaborate with our vendor's antenna designers, and work with ODMs and test houses to characterize antenna performance.
• You will define EMI requirements, confirm EMI performance, and help our JDMs find solutions to EMI problems. You will ascertain radio coexistence issues and prescribe mitigation solutions for coexistence problems that arise.
• You will define OTA and other pretesting requirements to gain confidence that our new products can pass cellular carrier certification (Verizon, ATT, others) and regulatory testing (FCC, GCF, PTCRB) with industry-leading margin.
• You will review schematics, layout and simulate performance to sign off on JDM designs of RF circuitry of the routers.
• You will lead RFFE re-architecture beyond module reference designs by replacing integrated solutions with discrete / semi-discrete implementations
• You will optimize PAs, LNAs, filters, switches, and duplexers to balance modem performance, carrier certification margin, thermal behavior, and BOM cost.
• Define strategies for: Band grouping, Antenna sharing, 8Rx / MIMO optimization
• Work closely with vendors (Qorvo, Skyworks, Murata, Qualcomm) but do not depend blindly on them.
• You will work with other hardware and non-hardware engineers (firmware, software, sales, etc.) in the company to answer questions that arise regarding RF performance.
The strong skills you bring:
• 12+ years of RF Cellular Hardware Engineering experience in an R&D environment
• Experience with EMI measurement, solutions, and test
• Experience designing and debugging cellular RF front-end circuits (RFFE) supporting 4G/5G modems.
• Experience with antenna design and test
• Experience with RF board layout and test
• Experience with RF test equipment
• Experience with Qualcomm based cellular radios
• Experience with Carrier Certification with the North American carriers is a plus
• BE or ME degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on RF, electromagnetics and/or microwave engineering required, master's degree preferred
• Outstanding teamwork and collaboration skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment (high energy and optimistic perspective)
• Ability to seek product and process improvements via future planning, forward thinking, as well as tracking industry technology trends
• Ability to travel occasionally
