Position Title: Master Course Approval SME (Top-Level Engine Mariner)
Location: Martinsburg, WV
Clearance required: Unclassified (no personnel security clearance required)
Scope of Work: Serves as the top-level engine subject matter expert supporting the National Maritime Center Mariner Credentialing Program. Reviews mariner training course requests and drafts appropriate responses for course approvals regarding the conformance of course requests to regulatory requirements. Applies senior engineering mariner expertise across propulsion modes to the evaluation of course content and mariner credentialing matters.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Draft appropriate responses for mariner training course approvals regarding the conformance of course requests to regulatory requirements.
- Provide top-level engine subject matter expertise to the review and evaluation of mariner training courses.
- Support the full range of technical services required to meet the mission needs of the National Maritime Center.
- Must hold or have held, at a minimum, a valid U.S. Coast Guard-issued MMC endorsed as Chief Engineer of vessels of any horsepower (Unlimited Horsepower) for Motor (Diesel), Steam, or Gas Turbine propulsion, OR a USCG-issued MMC endorsed as First Assistant Engineer of vessels of any horsepower (Unlimited Horsepower) for Motor (Diesel), Steam, or Gas Turbine propulsion.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience sailing on that credential.
- Preferred (not required): Experience with multiple or all propulsion modes (Motor, Steam, and Gas Turbine); experience in writing or developing training courses.
- A valid STCW certificate is not required for this position.
Skills Required
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard-issued Merchant Mariner Credential endorsed as Chief Engineer of unlimited-horsepower vessels for Motor, Steam, or Gas Turbine propulsion, or as First Assistant Engineer with the same propulsion qualifications.
- At least 5 years of experience sailing on the required credential.
- Experience with multiple or all propulsion modes: Motor, Steam, and Gas Turbine.
- Experience writing or developing training courses.
- Valid STCW certificate.
