Summary

The Sr. Communications Specialist on the Audience Engagement team works closely with content contributors to edit and develop content for the field ecosystem that align with Northwestern Mutual's strategic corporate communication priorities. These activities inform, educate, and influence a range of target audiences across our field ecosystem. This role understands audience segments, available channels, channel strategies and the overall content journey.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Intakes, manages and optimizes content distribution requests from business partners and communication consultants through writing, editing and visual solutions.

Collaborates with business partners on content assets and campaigns, building data pools and insights to provide strategic consultation.

Proactively manages day-to-day editorial calendar.

Edits and shapes content for channel and audience to obtain desired impact, always prioritizing an audience-centric approach.

Consistently meets target timelines, even through high volumes, to hand off high-quality, final content to publisher.

Influence and provide guidance to business partners on proven approaches for content formats, structure and language to encourage intended outcomes.

May provide informal guidance or delegate assignments to more junior team members.

Recommends, develops, implements and maintains communication standards for field channels. Assures that quality standards are present in all communications.

Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or similar subject areas
  • 3 or more years of experience in corporate communication, public relations, organizational communication, marketing or related communication field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to absorb information and convert to an understandable format.
  • Ability to build rapport, collaborate, and engage with and gain acceptance at all levels.
  • Ability to solve problems and analyze possible solutions to make business decisions.
