What you will do

Reporting to the Communications Director, you will be responsible for creating and leading impactful and creative employee communication strategies, that reinforce the mission and vision of our global software and hardware engineering function, including our OpenBlue software platform. With a focus on driving and implementing our strategic priorities, this role is critical in engaging and aligning employees on our digital, hardware and business strategies, ensuring impactful activities that drive a sharp understanding of OpenBlue and its critical role in the enabler of our growth, as well as the investments in hardware engineering.

In this role you will be instrumental in strategic planning, creating, and executing communications across multiple channels and a diverse, global audience. Your broad knowledge of effective communication messaging, tools/technology, and channel strategy (online and offline), effective measurement techniques and advanced knowledge of specific technical/operational practices applied to a variety of projects will make you a successful candidate in this role. Working with the wider communications team, you will strive to continually evaluate and improve our capabilities, resources, and communication vehicles for all employees, regardless of role and location, while bringing new and innovative ideas to the table.

  • Support business and functional leaders by developing a deep understanding of the strategic business needs to create compelling stories and key messages and communicate them in a simple, engaging, impactful and informative way.
  • Support business and functional leaders in creating communications that drive employee engagement that drives the vision, purpose, and goals of the organization.
  • Act as a communication business partner to the software and hardware engineering organization, providing guidance, support, and communications best practices.
  • Develop compelling content that drives understanding of OpenBlue across our key stakeholders.
  • Challenge the status quo and consider new and different ways of communicating, relying on data to inform our strategies.
  • Collaborate with marketing communications, public relations, and digital teams to leverage existing content.
  • Oversee processes and protocol to ensure accurate dissemination of information.
  • Create a disciplined approach to communications - driving consistency in communications processes, including measuring effectiveness and driving strategic adjustments based on results.
  • Manage various communications programs from concept to completion as assigned by the Communications Director.

How you will do it

  • Develop and executes communication plans and strategies in line with broader Johnson Controls messaging aligned with internal branding to help educate, inform and engage employees.
  • Drive planning, delivery, and measurement of internal communication plans to enable strategic outcomes aligned to the priorities of the Chief Technology Officer.
  • Understands global, diverse, and remote workforce audiences as well as their different communication needs.
  • Coordinates the distribution and tracking of communications to build appropriate audience profiles and ensures timely delivery and follow-up with key audiences.
  • Aids in creating, editing, and proofreading materials related to various functions or businesses.
  • Supports the team with large scale live events, as well as onsite presentation coordination, including webinars and live broadcast.
  • Oversees communications review process with internal subject matter experts, stakeholders, legal/compliance, and other leaders as needed.
  • Provides support to broader, enterprise communication strategies to achieve larger-scale initiatives.
  • Manages research, information gathering and content creation to support execution of messaging plans.
  • Manages the delivery of print, email, and online communications across a global function or enterprise-wide to ensure successful distribution.
  • Develop and manage channel platforms, including regular updates, reporting and analytics.
  • Develop tools, standard processes, and communication toolkits for individual site deployments as well as program in general.
  • Author targeted communications for all levels of the organization.
  • Publish/distribute a variety of internal publications and other relevant content in several formats.
  • Apply appropriate methods for measuring effectiveness of communication and engagement activities.

What we look for

Required

  • Five or more years specifically in corporate employee communications with demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills across a variety of creative formats. Experience in HR communications preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess the confidence and maturity to interact with all levels of the organization with the ability to maintain confidential or sensitive information, as well as influence with and without authority.
  • Ability to tailor messages to various employee audiences using appropriate tone, nuance and level of information; superior command of grammar and usage.
  • Ability to quickly gather and synthesize information from a variety of sources; aptitude for translating complex topics and issues into broadly understandable messages to employees.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to multitask.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Hands-on experience driving integrated communications campaigns.
  • Experience with software or technology communications.
  • Able to think strategically across the enterprise while digging into tactical needs.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Collaborative approach but able to work independently as needed.
