The Role
Own client relationships and marketing outcomes across social media, content marketing, PR, SEO, and paid campaigns. Lead client meetings, translate goals into strategies, coordinate designers and specialists, manage deadlines and scope, interpret performance reports, and present insights. The role also handles PR, storytelling, client advocacy, and hands-on marketing execution while using AI and other tools to improve effectiveness.

The short version

Our clients don't come to us for a handful of disconnected services. They come to us for direction, consistency, and someone who owns the relationship end-to-end. That someone is our Marketing Strategist.

This is a client-facing role with real ownership. You'll be the person your accounts trust, the person who turns their goals into a plan, and the person who makes sure our designers, developers, and specialists deliver on that plan. It's less "manage a task list" and more "own the outcome."

One role, several hats

At a bigger agency, this work would be sliced across four departments. At Dogwood, it's yours.

You're the account lead. You run the client meetings, present the work, and explain the reasoning behind the strategy with enough confidence to defend it when someone pushes back. You stay ahead of your clients rather than waiting to be chased, and when the data gets complicated, you're the one who makes it make sense.

You're the strategist who keeps evolving. Marketing looks different every quarter, and that's the fun part. We treat AI as a genuine partner in the work. It makes our strategists faster and sharper, and you'll use it that way. Beyond that, we want someone who's always poking at how we could do this better.

You're the project manager and the scorekeeper. You won't build the website or place the ads yourself, but you own whether the results land. You'll coordinate with our designers, ad specialist, and web development team to keep deliverables on time and in scope, and you'll pull the monthly SEO and paid campaign reports and walk clients through what the numbers actually mean for their business.

You're the client's advocate and their storyteller. Inside our office, you represent them. Outside it, you're their voice handling PR directly, shaping the stories worth telling, and making sure their brand shows up the way it should.

What the week actually looks like

You'll run social media, content marketing, and PR for your accounts hands-on. You'll partner with our web development team on technical SEO and our ad specialist on search and retargeting, then review and present their reporting to your clients. And you'll brief and guide our graphic designers so every visual matches the strategy you've set.

What's not on your plate

  • Cold calling, sales, or pricing proposals
  • Website development, coding, or technical SEO execution
  • Paid ad placement and backend campaign builds
  • Managing employees. You direct the project, not the person. You assign client work to specialists, but their manager handles reviews, employment, and payroll.

What you need to bring

We care more about how you work than what's on your résumé.

You should be a strong writer above all. Most of this job happens in an inbox, and clarity on the page is the whole ballgame. You should also be able to lead a meeting or send a difficult email without agonizing over it for an hour. You should be a real listener, able to hear what a client is actually worried about underneath what they said, and then champion that internally. You should be self-motivated enough to chase down an answer when the situation changes, and organized enough to direct other people's work respectfully while keeping a dozen deadlines straight. And you should be curious about new tools rather than nervous about them.

Experience with social media, content marketing, PR, search engine optimization, or WordPress is a nice bonus. It isn't a requirement. We can teach the tools. We can't teach drive.

Our culture

Dogwood is not a playground. Clients send us their work because they know it will come back done right, on time, and without drama. We're proud of that.

That said, we like each other. We're a family-first, tight-knit team with a stocked kitchen, a standing daily team walk, and a habit of throwing the garage door open the second the weather turns. There's a pool get-together in the summer, Friendsgiving in November, a Christmas party, and a steady handful of things in between.

Compensation & benefits

  • $35,000–$45,000 to start, based on verifiable experience, with a formal performance and compensation review at 90 days for merit-based increases
  • Company-paid health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 3% retirement match
  • $75,000 company-paid group life policy
  • Insurance opt-out stipend if you're already covered
  • Support for professional development and continuing education

If you want a role where you'll be stretched, where your ownership genuinely matters, and where you'll grow alongside a team that notices the effort, we'd like to meet you.
