Sourcebooks, one of publishing’s most innovative and fastest-growing houses, is seeking a visionary Marketing and Publicity Manager to lead campaigns for our Poisoned Pen Press imprint. Home to award-winning and genre-defining authors, Poisoned Pen Press publishes some of the most compelling voices in fantasy, horror, and speculative fiction—and we’re looking for a marketer who can match that creativity with equally bold campaigns.
This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished publishing marketer who thrives on creative freedom, values cross-functional collaboration, and wants to influence what—and how—genre fans read. This position can be fully remote in the following states ONLY: Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. We also offer hybrid flexibility from our Naperville, IL or New York City offices if preferred.
This is an exempt, salaried position with a competitive range of $70,000–$90,000, based on experience, location, and results in book marketing
What You’ll Own
- Lead Signature Campaigns: Develop, execute, and measure creative multi-channel marketing strategies for high-profile and emerging fantasy, horror, and speculative fiction titles.
- Drive Discovery: Position books for maximum impact—from pre-publication buzz to long-tail sales—leveraging the full spectrum of media, influencer, digital, and retail channels.
- Partner with Talent: Serve as a strategic advisor to authors, agents, and brand partners; craft pre-order programs, fan engagement initiatives, and digital content that grows audiences and deepens loyalty.
- Media Excellence: Write and pitch standout press materials; secure national, niche, and genre-specific coverage across print, broadcast, podcasts, and online platforms.
- Event Leadership: Orchestrate author tours, convention appearances, festival activations, and bookstore launches—amplifying reach and building lasting reader relationships.
- 5+ years of fiction title marketing experience with demonstrated success in strategy development and campaign implementation
- Digital marketing expertise including social media management, content creation, and digital advertising
- Exceptional writing and positioning skills, with the ability to craft pitches and messaging that spark excitement and drive action.
- Creative portfolio showcasing marketing materials, campaigns, or content creation
- Literary enthusiasm: Genuine passion for books, reading, and the publishing industry
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, or related field
- Willingness to travel occasionally for author events, conventions, and industry conferences.
- Previous experience in book publishing, literary marketing, or entertainment marketing
- Familiarity with book industry trends, seasonal patterns, and key promotional periods
- Experience with marketing analytics tools and campaign measurement
- Knowledge of the literary community including book bloggers, BookTok, and reading communities
