About the Department:

The Development & Marketing Department is responsible for fundraising, promoting JFCS and engaging with 

our community. Key functions include:

  • Fundraising – securing funding from individual donors, businesses, public and private foundations, community organizations and others
  • Public Relations – managing our public image and communicating our successes
  • Digital Marketing – utilizing social media, email campaigns and our website to reach a wider audience
  • Content Creation – developing engaging content that highlights our impact and the issues we address
  • Community Outreach – connecting with others to foster partnership and support
  • Volunteerism – recruiting and managing volunteers to support JFCS clients and programs

Job Summary/Function:

The Marketing & Events Specialist is a key member of the Development team with a primary responsibility 

for telling the story of the impact of JFCS through social media and content creation and building the brand 

awareness of the organization within the community. The position also leads special event planning and 

implementation for JFCS. A vital element to this role is the creation and implementation of a comprehensive 

marketing strategy that supports the organization’s development goals and strategic plan.

Marketing

  • Supports the Development lead in development and marketing efforts in alignment with fundraising development goals.
  • Develops a long-range marketing, branding and community relations plan.
  • Expand community outreach through speaker’s bureau and volunteer activities.
  • Design multi-channel campaigns across email, social media, print, and web to promote upcoming events.
  • Cultivate relationships with media, volunteers, and other organizations.
  • Develop, in collaboration with the development team, an integrated donor marketing plan for benefactor communication, recognition and stewardship.
  • Special Events
  • Research and develop all aspects of JFCS special events to ensure financial and attendance objectives are met.
  • Identify resources and systems required to implement the events effectively, in conjunction with the 
  • Development lead.
  • Provide staff support for volunteers and committees charged with responsibility for fundraising events.
  • Develop and produce appropriate communications and materials for each event.
  • Analyze campaign performance using key performance metrics and deliver post-event reports. 
  • Foster good relationships with development staff in other organizations and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Track event expenses and process campaign performance.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in marketing or a fundraising function with responsibility for both idea creation/planning and implementation within a community-based organization.
  • Experience in planning and implementing fundraising and other special events.
  • Non-Profit experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of social media tracking tools, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) or Canva.
  • Proficiency in event management software, CRM databases and marketing automation tools.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Donor Perfect and Constant Contact.
  • Training Requirements:
  • Completion of all required agency-wide and program-specific trainings.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Desk work with computer usage for extended periods
  • Occasional irregular hours and capacity to work under pressure
  • Full range of motion and corrected vision, hearing, and speech (or reasonable accommodations)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • At least 3 years of marketing or fundraising experience in a community-based organization
  • Experience planning and implementing fundraising and other special events
  • Nonprofit experience
  • Working knowledge of social media tracking tools
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, InDesign, or Canva
