Job Purpose: Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator will work closely with our guest experience, events, education and animal care teams across several areas. This role is suited to someone confident, organised and with a sound, practical knowledge of the social and marketing landscape. This is a hands-on, full-time role for a creative and organized marketer who is equally comfortable with writing captions, producing social shoots and reading analytics reports. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will own the end-to-end running of our social media channels and support the marketing department across planning and delivering campaigns.

Please remember that due to the nature of our business, we work when others play in an attraction that is open 365 days of the year. You will be expected to be onsite for any video, photo, film shoot, as well as our events throughout the year, during, before or after the hours of operation.

Critical Accountabilities:

  • Plan, schedule and publish content across our social channels (such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube) using a monthly content calendar that supports business priorities.
  • Capture and produce video, photos and stories on site, working closely with our education and animal care departments.
  • Assist with influencer and creator partnerships: identify and vet creators, agree on deliverables and schedules, write briefs, host on site, review content before it goes live, and report on results.
  • Monitor comments, direct messages and mentions daily.
  • Work with guest-generated content, including requesting permissions and usage rights.
  • Track performance across social channels and campaigns and prepare monthly reports with clear takeaways and recommendations.
  • Write clear, engaging copy for social posts, email newsletters, web pages and internal signage.
  • Assist with graphics and layouts in Adobe Creative Suite for departments across the aquarium.
  • Create all social graphics in Photoshop and Canva.
  • Plan and coordinate photo and video shoots with outside vendors such as photographers, videographers and production crews, film crews, media crews including briefs, schedules, on-site logistics and delivery of final assets.
  • Shoot and edit video and photo content in house using Adobe Creative Suite and CapCut, with DJI and GoPro cameras and lighting and audio equipment.
  • Maintain accuracy by confirming animal facts, programming details, hours and pricing with the relevant teams before publishing.
  • Keep our brand voice, style guide and photo and video library organized and up to date.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Skills and Requirements:

  • Two or more years of experience in social media, digital marketing or communications, ideally for a consumer-facing brand, attraction, hospitality or tourism organization, agency or in-house team.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (for example Photoshop and Premiere Pro) and other graphic creation programs.
  • Experience editing video in CapCut and Premiere Pro.
  • Comfortable shooting with camera equipment (DJI and GoPro cameras), setting up and operating lighting and audio equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with scheduling and analytics tools (for example Meta Business Suite, Sprout Social, Hootsuite) and native platform analytics.
  • Strong grasp of what works on each platform, with the ability to explain why a post succeeded or did not, using data.
  • Excellent written communication with careful proofreading.
  • Sound judgment under pressure, including how to respond calmly and professionally.
  • Strong organizational skills, including coordinating outside vendors and creators against deadlines and budgets.
  • Comfort working outside regular business hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, journalism, digital media or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Creative, curious and collaborative, with a good sense of humour that fits a family-friendly brand.
  • Careful and accountable, with a habit of checking facts and permissions before publishing.
  • Comfortable taking direction, giving and receiving feedback, and working across many teams.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage priorities independently in a fast-moving environment.
Assets:
  • Experience marketing events, ticketed experiences or seasonal programming.
  • Experience running influencer campaigns.
  • Knowledge of the Toronto tourism, family and events landscape.
  • Interest in animals, conservation or marine life, and the ability to communicate science in a way people enjoy.
  • A portfolio or live channels that show strong writing and visual judgment, with examples of graphics, short-form video and/or campaign work you personally produced.
