The Role
Creates, localizes, translates, and publishes Korean-market content across YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Manages filming, editing, captioning, platform growth, community engagement, performance reporting, and adaptation of global campaigns. Supports local event and education-program marketing while coordinating priorities between Korean and global leadership.
Summary Generated by Built In

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) is the world's largest coffee trade association, representing more than 10,000 members across 100+ countries — producers, roasters, baristas, buyers, and industry partners united by a commitment to elevating the craft and culture of specialty coffee. Through education, certification, research, and world-class events like the World Barista Championship, SCA sets the global standard for what specialty coffee can be.

The Opportunity

SCA is seeking a Contract Marketing Coordinator, Content & Digital Platforms – Korea to lead local content generation and digital platform growth in one of specialty coffee's most dynamic markets. This role reports to the Managing Director, Korea, while roughly 75–80% of day-to-day work is directed by the Director of Digital Production, based in California. The role owns two connected areas of work: taking content from SCA's global marketing team and localizing or creating it for the Korean market, and building out SCA's YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn presence specifically for Korean audiences.

This is a hands-on, content-focused role. You'll take global campaigns and brand assets and turn them into content that performs for a Korean audience — translated, adapted, or built from scratch — while helping grow SCA's Korean-market platforms from the ground up. A smaller portion of your time will go toward supporting the Managing Director, Korea directly on local events and education program marketing.

Because this role sits between two leaders in two countries, close and proactive communication among the coordinator, the Managing Director, Korea, and the Director of Digital Production is essential — not an occasional check-in, but an ongoing three-way alignment to make sure day-to-day direction and formal oversight stay in sync.

Reporting & Collaboration Structure

  • Direct report: Managing Director, Korea. This is the formal reporting relationship — performance management, growth, and local accountability sit here.
  • Primary day-to-day direction (~75–80% of work): Director of Digital Production, based in California. Most day-to-day tasking, priorities, and platform strategy come from this relationship, even though it isn't the formal reporting line.
  • Remaining ~20–25% of work: Directed by the Managing Director, Korea, covering local events and education program marketing support.
  • Expectation: regular three-way check-ins between you, the Managing Director, Korea, and the Director of Digital Production. You are expected to proactively keep both loops informed — this structure only works if communication flows both ways, not just up one line.

What You'll Own

Global-to-Local Content Pipeline  (Directed by Digital Production — ~75–80%)

Take content produced by SCA's global marketing team — campaigns, brand assets, messaging — and adapt, translate, or repackage it for the Korean market, ensuring nothing goes out without local relevance and cultural and linguistic accuracy.

Local Content Creation  (Directed by Digital Production — ~75–80%)

Where global content doesn't exist or doesn't fit, create original content for the Korean market — from social posts and captions to short-form video, built for a Korean audience from the ground up.

Platform Building — YouTube, Instagram, Facebook & LinkedIn  (Directed by Digital Production — ~75–80%)

Partner closely with the Director of Digital Production to build out and grow SCA's presence on these platforms specifically for Korea — posting cadence, platform-specific formats, and community engagement.

Local Events & Education Program Marketing Support  (Directed by Managing Director, Korea — ~20–25%; direct reporting line)

Support marketing for local Korean events and SCA's education programs (Diplomas, Q Grader, Coffee Business Education, Master of Specialty Coffee) in-market, working directly with your manager, the Managing Director, Korea.

Core Responsibilities

  • Global-to-Local Adaptation (~75–80%, directed by Digital Production): Localize global campaigns, brand assets, and messaging for the Korean market — translating copy and adapting creative so nothing publishes without local relevance and accuracy.
  • Original Content Creation (~75–80%, directed by Digital Production): Shoot, write, and produce original content for the Korean market when global content doesn't cover a need — from social posts to short-form video.
  • Platform Growth (~75–80%, directed by Digital Production): Work with the Director of Digital Production to build and grow SCA's YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn channels for the Korean audience, including posting cadence, formatting, and community management.
  • Content Production (~75–80%, directed by Digital Production): Handle end-to-end production of platform-native content — filming, editing, captioning, and publishing — tailored to each platform's format and Korean audience conventions.
  • Local Events & Education Marketing Support (~20–25%, directed by Managing Director, Korea): Support marketing for local events and education program promotion in Korea, as your direct manager.
  • Performance Reporting (~75–80%, directed by Digital Production): Track content and platform performance in Korea, reporting results back to the Director of Digital Production.
  • Three-Way Alignment (all parties): Proactively coordinate with both the Director of Digital Production and the Managing Director, Korea to keep local content aligned with global brand strategy, campaign calendars, and local priorities — flagging conflicts between the two early rather than letting them surface as missed work.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in content creation, social media management, or digital marketing.
  • Professional fluency in English, written and spoken, is required — this role works closely with SCA's global marketing team on a daily basis.
  • Fluency in Korean, written and spoken, is also required, given the role's responsibility for localizing and creating content for the local market.
  • Based in Korea, with the ability to support local events as needed.
  • Hands-on experience creating and publishing content for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn — filming, editing, and platform-specific formatting.
  • Comfort with content creation and editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Canva, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of Korean social media platform conventions, trends, and audience behavior.
  • Excellent written localization skills, translating and adapting content between Korean and English.
  • Strong organizational skills, with comfort managing multiple concurrent content projects and deadlines — including projects directed from two different leaders in two different time zones.

Preferred

  • Experience in the coffee industry, hospitality, or specialty food and beverage sector.
  • A videography or photography portfolio demonstrating platform-native content work.
  • Experience supporting local events, trade shows, or education program marketing.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., SquareSpace or similar).

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a content-first, platform-savvy self-starter who's equally comfortable filming and editing a short-form video as adapting a global campaign for a Korean audience. You bring genuine cultural fluency between SCA's global brand and the Korean coffee community, and you take pride in content that's accurate, on-brand, and built to perform on the platform it's made for.

You're comfortable operating in a matrixed structure — reporting formally to the Managing Director, Korea, while taking the majority of your daily direction from the Director of Digital Production in California. That means being proactive about communication: keeping your manager informed even when most of your task list comes from someone else, and making sure priorities from both sides stay aligned rather than assuming someone else is bridging the gap for you.

First 90 Days

  • Get up to speed on SCA's global brand guidelines, current content calendar, and platform strategy.
  • Meet individually with both the Managing Director, Korea and the Director of Digital Production to establish how the three-way working relationship will run day to day.
  • Audit SCA's current Korean-market YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn presence, identifying content gaps and growth opportunities.
  • Localize at least one active global campaign and create one original piece of Korean-market content, start to finish.
  • Build an initial Korean-platform growth plan together with the Director of Digital Production.
  • Establish a working rhythm with the Managing Director, Korea on upcoming local event and education program marketing needs.

What Success Looks Like

Every initiative in this role should ladder up to one of three outcomes:

  • SCA's Korean-market content platforms (YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) are consistently active, on-brand, and growing.
  • Global marketing campaigns land authentically with the Korean coffee community, without losing brand consistency.
  • Local events and education program marketing are well-supported, in coordination with the Managing Director, Korea — and the Managing Director, Korea and the Director of Digital Production stay aligned on priorities throughout, without either side being surprised by the other's asks.
