Marketing Accounting is responsible for facilitating communication to Production Accounting and the settlement/accounting of all activities related to the buying, transporting, storing and selling of Oil, Natural Gas, and Natural Gas Liquids (NGL’s).
In addition, Marketing Accounting ensures that internal controls are adhered when addressing related banking, audit, regulatory and compliance tasks. Marketing Accounting is a very critical component of the organization and entails considerable interaction with various layers of the organization.
Responsibilities
Manage the confirmation, reconciliation, settlement and financial summary of the physical and financial transactions by which Oil, Natural gas, and NGLs are bought, sold, transported and delivered.
Ensure timely & accurate payment to suppliers (transportation, gathering, processing, purchases)
Ensure the timely collection of cash from debtors.
Maintain open and aged marketing account balances.
Provide the Production/Revenue accounting team with a monthly sales distribution in order to process the current month revenue and payment to partners & land owners through the revenue accounting system
Provide a monthly Transportation and Marketing Income report to the planning and financial reporting teams
Reconcile marketing sales and intercompany balances with related parties
Provide estimated cash receipts and cash splits to Treasury on a monthly basis
Record the current month estimate accrual for revenue, transportation, and marketing income
Ensure the monthly the marketing trade receivable, marketing payable, marketing clearing, and marketing accrual accounts are reconciled on a timely basis.
Ensure that monthly and year end close processes are followed including related account reconciliations and entries to the general ledger.
Review commercial contracts obligations (e.g. transportation, gathering and processing) and ensure systems and processes are in place to capture those obligations.
Ensure adequate internal controls are in place and control procedures are followed.
Interact professionally and confidently with the Marketing Middle Office, Planning, Gas & Power, and the Production/Revenue Accounting teams.
Prepare monthly analysis for use by management on the movement and realization of the products and its cost.
Prepare monthly imbalance summaries for natural gas, where applicable.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
3 plus years of finance and/or accounting experience (Oil & Gas industry preferred)
Proficient with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables and lookups)
Strong financial accounting skills including hands on experience with general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and account reconciliations.
Ability to disseminate and reconcile pipeline, truck and plant statements.
Ability to research and prepare analysis to respond to internal and external inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
