Marketing Accountant

We are actively seeking a Marketing Accountant to join our team in Calgary. The successful candidate will report to the Team Lead, Marketing Accounting and will primarily be responsible for accounting of Strathcona’s rail operations.

Areas of Responsibility

• Gather, calculate, and analyze data to support the determination of rail netback pricing.
• Terminal invoicing to third parties and reconciling monthly activity and cash settlement.
• Prepare settlement invoices, confirm transactions with counterparties, reconcile supporting documentation and resolve discrepancies.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve billing and settlement issues.
• Work closely with marketing, production accounting, treasury, and financial reporting to ensure accurate and timely recording of marketing transactions.
• Perform the month-end close process for marketing activities, including accruals and inventory valuation.
• Complete required financial reporting schedules to support quarterly and annual financial statement preparation.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives.
• Respond to ad-hoc requests and provide analysis as needed.

Skills and Knowledge

• An undergraduate degree and 3 years of recent, direct experience.
• Understanding of financial accounting.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage various deadlines and deliverables.
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with Q-byte would be an asset.
• Communication skills to facilitate working relationships with multiple departments.
