We are seeking a passionate, strategic, and focused Market Segment Manager to own the global marketing strategy for rare and genetic diseases clinical applications. In this role, you will define and complete the commercial strategy for your segment. You will identify growth opportunities and promote Oxford Nanopore’s innovative sequencing solutions to clinical researchers working on rare and genetic diseases worldwide.

In this role, you will lead the positioning of applications, working closely with product management, to enable the commercial teams across the regions through crafting compelling narratives that resonate with the clinical genetic community, including impactful external-facing material, a clear value proposition and competitive positioning. As the successful candidate, you will bring deep scientific and technical expertise in clinical genetics, rare diseases (including targeted as well as whole genome sequencing), enabling you to translate complex science into impactful strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner closely with the Human Genetic Segment Director to develop and refine global segment strategy: analyse market trends, customer needs, and competition to strengthen our position in targeted sequencing and whole genome sequencing for the rare and genetic disease clinical audience
- Commercial enablement:
- Deeply collaborate with commercial team leaders to develop a commercial enablement program with insights and strategies that drive sales activation and revenue growth.
- Provide application-focused tools to commercial teams, including sales and TS/FAS, including but not limited to internal training decks, battlecards, audience-specific messaging, detailed personas, competitive positioning for rare and genetic diseases clinical genetic (targeted sequencing and whole genome sequencing) to accelerate adoption and revenue growth
- Develop customer success stories, case studies, and thought leadership content that demonstrate real-world impact and increase adoption of new techniques and technologies.
- Market activation:
- Own and drive go-to-market (GTM) strategies for new product and application launches, including ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and generation of appropriate collateral (benchmarking, battlecards, app notes…)
- Define audience-specific needs and provide clear messaging, value proposition and objectives to integrate into rare and genetic disease clinical campaign
- Collaborate with the broader Marketing Team (product marketing, content, Brand…) to guide priorities globally while refining assets that resonate with the target audience and have regional impact.
- Collect and synthesise Voice of Customer (VOC), market data, and competitive insights to continuously refine positioning, messaging, and segment-specific enablement tools.
- Work cross-functionally with product management, application, R&D, Business Development to align product capabilities, provide market-driven insights to influence product roadmap decisions and identify new growth opportunities with the complex disease market needs and support successful new product introductions and lifecycle management.

The successful candidate will work in a growing Strategic Marketing team that focuses on the Human Disease Portfolio and should display the following experience:
• Advanced degree in molecular biology, clinical genetic, medical genetic or related field (Preferred: MS, Ph.D or equivalent experience)
• Commercial experience in marketing or clinical sales
• Demonstrate a deep knowledge of the clinical genetic audience, particularly their goals and pain points within clinical research settings. This includes effectively positioning Research Use Only (RUO) solutions to meet their needs and strategically differentiating emerging approaches—such as Oxford Nanopore’s innovative methods—against mature, reimbursed standard-of-care testing, including methods, workflows, and products used in clinical genetics beyond NGS such as microarrays, MLPA, and Sanger sequencing.
• Ability to translate complex concepts into a clear and compelling message to effectively communicate and present to technical and senior/executive audiences, internally and externally
• Proven experience developing and delivering global segment or market strategies.
• Ability to work autonomously in a global segment marketing role, setting directions, developing assets and prioritising
• Skilful at influencing without authority to define and deliver end-to-end solutions in a close cross-functional collaboration environment
• Subject matter expertise in rare and genetic diseases is preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 40% of the time, including some international travel
• Ability to identify key priorities and work strategically and efficiently with a small global team
• Be comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-paced, matrixed, and globally distributed organisation.
• Ability to build strong working relationships with senior external and internal stakeholders
