At Coras, we fuse expertise with humanity, rigor with creativity and innovation with curiosity. At the core of our business is the belief that a diversity of perspectives is the key to new thinking. That’s why our team brings together deep industry experience with some of the brightest young minds in Australia. Our values are more than just words on an email signature; we’re driven by an ethos that inspires and governs everything we do.
The Role:
We have multiple opportunities for Maritime and Systems Engineers at the Senior Consultant and Manager levels to join our Maritime Capability segment in Canberra.
In these roles you will be supporting Navy programs through engineering, technical assurance, and systems engineering activities across the Defence capability lifecycle. You will work with Defence clients to help define, develop, integrate and sustain complex maritime platforms and systems, bringing your technical expertise to projects that directly support Australia’s naval capability.
While consulting experience is valuable, it is not essential. We are looking for strong technical practitioners who want to apply their expertise in a consulting environment, and we can support you in developing those skills.
Our Ideal Candidate:
You are an experienced engineer with a background in Defence maritime environments and a strong understanding of how complex systems are developed, integrated and supported. You may have worked within Navy, the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG), Defence industry, a prime contractor, or another organisation supporting Defence programs.
We are particularly interested in people with experience across areas such as:
- Systems engineering, requirements engineering, integration engineering or technical assurance
- Maritime platforms, combat systems, weapons systems, marine systems or ship/submarine engineering
- Verification and validation, test and evaluation, certification or acceptance activities
- Engineering management, technical governance or engineering processes
You will bring:
- A Bachelor-level engineering qualification (or equivalent) in systems engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience delivering engineering outcomes in a Defence maritime environment
- Experience working within the Defence Capability System (highly desirable)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information for different audiences
- The ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity and build trusted stakeholder relationships
Experience with consulting, Above the Line (ATL) support, Defence capability documentation, MBSE, requirements tools (such as DOORS/Jama), Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), or Defence seaworthiness processes would be highly regarded.
As we are a Defence consultancy, you must also have the ability to obtain and maintain an AGSVA security clearance, ideally at the NV1 level or higher.
Coras prides itself on being a management consultancy with a difference. Underpinned by our core values, we are trailblazers for innovative consulting models and strategic solutions. As a result, we have built a culture that has our people’s aspirations, development and wellbeing front and centre.
Some of our employee benefits include:
- Well defined pathway for advancement
- Access to SME coaches to support your development
- Paid parental leave provisions
- Access to external and internal training, including a consulting skills program
- An additional 5 days per year of professional development leave
- Whole of company annual conference
- The opportunity to work with like-minded people on exciting projects
- Access to our Employee Assistance Provider
We believe great work happens when people from all walks of life are in the room. We welcome applications from everyone, and we support flexible and hybrid working arrangements where we can.
