POSITION SUMMARY:
Marathon Petroleum Company (MPC) is currently accepting applications for a Marine Barge & Fleeting Manager. This position will be located in Catlettsburg, KY and will report to the Gulf Coast Marine Operations Support Manager. The Marine Barge & Fleeting Manager is a critical member of Inland Marine Operations, and we are looking for individuals who can contribute to our inclusive work environment.
The Marine Barge & Fleeting Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient management of MPLX’s inland tank barge fleet. This role provides oversight of barge operations, inspections, maintenance, and regulatory compliance, while partnering closely with internal and external stakeholders. As the subject matter expert for barge, fleeting, and dock activities, the Marine Barge & Fleeting Manager plays a critical role in maintaining fleet integrity, operational reliability, and safety across Inland Marine Operations. Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism are critical to this position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages MPLX's fleet of inland river tank barges.
- Ensures MPLX's barge fleet remains in compliance with all federal and United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations.
- Manages MPLX Marine's Tank Barge Streamlined Inspection Program (TBSIP) with the USCG.
- Manages all operational, inspection, and maintenance activities for all MPC/MPLX owned and leased barge fleets.
- Serves as Designated Person Ashore (DPA) for all MPLX inland towing vessels.
- Collaborates with Marine Repair Facility personnel to ensure MPLX barge equipment is maintained/repaired in accordance with all federal regulations and timelines.
- Serves as the Barge/Fleeting/Dock subject matter expert for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborates with Maintenance & Engineering and Tankerman Services Group on barge design and construction projects.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card required.
- Ability to obtain Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) inspector accreditations required.
- Ability to obtain MPC Marine Surveyor and Auditor designations required.
- Five (5) years of vessel and terminal operations experience required.
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
