The Role
Description
Work Arrangement
Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Global Technical Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.
This role requires intermittent travel, including potential temporary relocation to support new equipment installation and manufacturing ramp-up. Travel requirements range from 25% to 60%, depending on the phase of the launch cycle.
The Role
We're seeking a career-level Process Engineer who can operate independently with minimal supervision. This role requires expertise in evaluating equipment and tooling options, developing calibration and testing procedures, and optimizing operational workflows to maximize the efficiency of personnel, materials, machinery, and facilities. You'll work within a centralized manufacturing engineering or assembly/plant environment, where creativity, initiative, and sound judgment are essential.
What You'll Do
  • Design and implement calibration and testing solutions for perception systems (e.g., LiDAR, cameras) used in autonomous applications.
  • Define requirements for cell design and construction to ensure first-time quality and performance targets are met.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and controls teams to ensure seamless integration of perception systems.
  • Conduct simulations and validation tests to ensure the reliability and performance of perception calibration systems.
  • Participate in feasibility studies and prototyping efforts to explore new technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide technical expertise and support across the Robotics Engineering organization.
  • Partner with the Software Solutions Architect to align perception development with manufacturing system requirements.

Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or operations, with a focus on calibration and testing of perception equipment (LiDAR, radar, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with LiDAR and camera-based perception systems.
  • Proven ability to implement and test perception functionality in autonomous systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing software for Linux-based embedded systems.
  • Background in robotics or automation industries.
  • Familiarity with advanced planning and control methodologies.
  • Experience with prototyping and conducting feasibility studies.
  • Awareness of emerging trends and technologies in autonomous system planning and control.
