POSITION SUMMARY

The Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that supplied materials and components meet quality standards and specifications. This role collaborates closely with suppliers, procurement, engineering, and manufacturing teams to drive supplier performance, resolve quality issues, and implement continuous improvement initiatives. The SQE plays a critical role in maintaining product quality, reducing defects, and supporting overall operational excellence.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and maintain supplier quality requirements and standards.
  • Evaluate and qualify new suppliers through audits, capability assessments, and APQP processes.
  • Monitor supplier performance using key metrics such as PPM, FPY, and on-time delivery.
  • Lead supplier corrective action processes (SCAR) and ensure timely and effective resolution using 8D methodology.
  • Conduct supplier audits (process, system, and product) to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Review and approve supplier PPAP submissions and ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Support incoming inspection activities and disposition of nonconforming materials (MRB).
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams to resolve quality issues and implement preventive measures.
  • Analyze quality data and trends to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure suppliers comply with applicable regulatory and industry standards.
  • Participate in new product introduction (NPI) activities to ensure supplier readiness.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing, or quality engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of quality tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, and Control Plans.
  • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone).
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001, or equivalent).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in quality data analysis tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Certification such as CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) is a plus.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Occasional exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures in production areas.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform inspections for extended periods.
  • May require lifting up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required in manufacturing areas.

TIME TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • Approximately 20–40% travel required.
  • Domestic and international travel to supplier locations for audits, development, and issue resolution.
  • Flexibility to travel on short notice as needed.
