Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Supervisor leads daily production activities and frontline manufacturing personnel to achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and labor-utilization objectives. This position manages production priorities, employee performance, timekeeping, QMS training administration, and workforce capability while supporting the Manufacturing Manager with performance updates, risk identification, and recovery planning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Production Management

Own daily production results by monitoring shop-order priorities, staffing, capacity, materials, equipment availability, and employee qualifications. Adjust labor assignments and production priorities within established authority to meet operating requirements.

Review results and address performance gaps with Leads. Develop recovery actions and provide the Manufacturing Manager with routine updates on performance, risks, and recovery plans. Escalate significant or unresolved issues promptly.

Ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, work instructions, and quality standards. Maintain organized, production-ready work areas and take appropriate containment action when issues arise.

Systems and Performance Metrics

Use the company’s ERP system and other approved resources to manage shop orders, schedules, labor, materials, and production status. Ensure production quantities, labor transactions, material usage, scrap, rework, and other required information are recorded accurately and on time.

Monitor and communicate key performance indicators, including safety, quality, schedule attainment, productivity, labor utilization, scrap, rework, downtime, and on-time completion. Work with Leads to address variances and implement corrective or continuous-improvement actions.

Employee Performance and Timekeeping

Own the performance-review process for assigned manufacturing personnel. Establish measurable goals, conduct regular one-on-one meetings, monitor progress, and prepare timely, objective, and documented evaluations. Hold employees accountable for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, conduct, competency, and compliance with company policies.

Recognize strong performance and promptly address performance or conduct concerns. Coordinate performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions with the Manufacturing Manager and Human Resources.

Review, correct, and approve employee timecards within payroll deadlines. Monitor attendance, punctuality, leave, and overtime, and resolve discrepancies with employees, Payroll, Human Resources, and management.

QMS Training Administration

Own Manufacturing training administration in accordance with QMS requirements. Review training documentation submitted by Leads for accuracy and completeness, and track requirements, due dates, expirations, document revisions, and outstanding acknowledgments.

Ensure employees are trained on current Manufacturing Work Instructions, Shop Aids, quality procedures, and safety requirements. Maintain audit-ready records, promptly correct documentation gaps, and partner with Quality to resolve discrepancies. Leads remain responsible for delivering and documenting assigned shop-floor training.

Workforce Capability and Succession

Maintain the department skills or competency matrix with input from Leads. Identify cross-training needs, capability gaps, and succession risks based on production demands, employee development, and documented qualifications.

Develop Lead and technician capabilities to improve workforce flexibility and internal advancement. Recommend advancement based on demonstrated proficiency and sustained performance. Address trends involving performance, attendance, or competency through coaching, development, or corrective action.

Safety, Quality, and Coordination

Promote compliance with company safety policies, quality requirements, personal protective equipment, and approved procedures. Stop or redirect unsafe or nonconforming work and support incident investigations and corrective actions.

Coordinate with Quality, Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Human Resources, and other departments to resolve issues and maintain production flow.

Requirements

 Skills and Abilities Summary:  

Requires the ability to lead employees, manage production priorities, analyze performance metrics, conduct performance evaluations, and maintain accountability. The candidate must have working knowledge of manufacturing operations, capacity planning, standard work, QMS documentation, and basic problem-solving methods.

Proficiency with ERP systems and standard business software is required, along with the ability to maintain accurate production, employee, timekeeping, training, and competency records. Strong organizational, decision-making, documentation, and communication skills are essential.

The ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, specifications, and work instructions is required. Familiarity with calibration, laser welding, TIG welding, cleanroom assembly, soldering, and labor tracking is preferred. Proficiency in English is required; Spanish-English bilingual capability is preferred.

2+ years of relevant manufacturing experience.
