Manufacturing Production Engineer

The manufacturing engineer leads the development and organization of production operations. They develop a successful workflow, adapt to changing conditions, and develop new equipment procedures and policies to increase efficiency in all operations. They evaluate manufacturing processes by conducting research; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; interact with equipment vendors; listen to and request observations from operators/production floor.  Act as the technical liaison between Production and Design Engineering.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recommend and support corrective or preventive actions to assure or improve product quality or reliability.
  • Prepare layouts, drawings, or sketches of machinery or equipment, such as shop tooling, scale layouts, or new equipment design.
  • Identify and implement new manufacturing technologies, processes, or equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in quality, cost, or efficiency of operations.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and practices.
  • Daily Technical Support to Production Managers, Supervisors, & Leads as required.
  • Assist in skills development for team members.
  • Work with Maintenance to troubleshoot machine issues.
  • Documentation- Equipment Operating Instructions, Product Assembly Work Instructions.
  • Review and implement ECN’s, manage product serial number database, create and get approval for Carton Decals/Labels.
  • Manufacturing support, prototype build/support, new product launches, ECN’s, and Safety culture support.
  • Calculate labor estimates and develop routings.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Attributes:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a manufacturing/production engineer.
  • Technically oriented with high attention to detail.
  • Able to reorder priorities in accordance with changing work conditions and customer requirements.
  • Able to multi-task and work well without supervision.
  • Use good judgment and common sense to make numerous daily decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with all other departments of the Company.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Anticipates internal and external customer needs, gives high priority to customer satisfaction and service.
  • Able to work in a high mix, low volume environment.
  • Strong computer skills - Excel, Word, Adobe, MRP systems, CorelDraw, SolidWorks.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.

  • Understanding of manufacturing operations and processes.
  • Time management and prioritization skills, sense of ‘urgency’.
  • Self-directed and organized with high attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to interact with team members and customers professionally.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Able to work well as part of a cross-functional team.

The hiring range for this position in Binghamton, New York is: $64,900-$89,275.
