Company Overview
Allen Control Systems (ACS) is a cutting-edge defense startup, founded by two former Navy electrical engineers with a proven track record in robotics and software. We are developing a small, autonomous gun turret that employs advanced computer vision and control systems to precisely target and neutralize small drones and loitering munitions. Our innovative approach requires overcoming significant technical challenges, making this an exciting and dynamic environment for experienced engineers.
With an engineering-first culture, ACS values technical excellence and innovation. Backed by our founders' successful exits from two previous ventures acquired for a combined $180M in 2022, we are committed to ensuring that the groundbreaking technologies we develop will have a real-world impact.
Position Overview
Allen Control Systems is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support the design, optimization, and implementation of production processes for robotic systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in process and tooling development, equipment integration, root cause analysis, and statistical process control.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and optimize manufacturing processes for system components, including workflow layouts, assembly methods, and automation integration to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Utilize CAD/CAM software, simulation tools, and statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab or SPC) to model processes, identify bottlenecks, and drive improvements in cycle times and yield.
- Collaborate with design, quality, and operations teams to apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles, ensuring seamless transition from prototyping to high-volume production.
- Lead root cause analysis for production issues using methodologies like 8D or Fishbone diagrams, implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to resolve inefficiencies.
- Manage equipment setup, validation, and maintenance for manufacturing tools, including CNC machines, test fixtures, and automated assembly lines.
- Conduct process capability studies, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and Gauge R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility) studies to validate measurement systems and ensure data reliability for quality assessments.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) like OEE, throughput, and scrap rates; generate reports and support continuous improvement initiatives through lean and Six Sigma tools.
- Integrate supplier processes by evaluating vendor performance and developing protocols for incoming materials and components.
What You’ll Need:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on process design, equipment integration, and analysis in a systems or electronics manufacturing environment.
- Proven expertise in root cause analysis techniques and statistical tools for process optimization and data-driven improvements.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing equipment, process simulation, and metrology practices.
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, quality management systems, and production planning.
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of quality standards such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced inspection lab and manufacturing setting.
What We Offer:
- Competitive salary
- ACS Equity Package
- Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
- Paid Time Off

What We Do
Allen Control Systems is a defense technology company for a new era of drone warfare and to completely change battlefield economics. ACS is developing counter-drone robotic gun systems targeted at neutralizing attacking drone swarms, drones that are pre-programmed with AI, and drones that are non-jammable. ACS was created to lower the cost per kill of a drone to a few dollars. We do this by combining cutting-edge hardware and software that allows us to point an inexpensive gun that already exists in the field more accurately than anyone ever has before. ACS is a remote organization, with our HQ in Austin, Texas, and an office in Alexandria, Va. If you're passionate about our mission, we’d love to hear from you.
