This role partners closely with design engineering, production, quality, and supply chain teams to support new product introductions, resolve manufacturing issues, develop process documentation, and drive continuous improvement in yield, quality, and efficiency. The position also provides technical leadership for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews, Engineering Change Orders (ECO) control, failure analysis, supplier quality, and technician training within a regulated, export‑controlled manufacturing environment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review designs and collaborate with designers to ensure DFM. Assist design engineering by providing manufacturing requirements for new optical designs, relating to product costs, quality, and production flow.

  • Participate in new project engineering design and reviews. Apply manufacturing knowledge (with an understanding of current manufacturing capability) to participate in design change decisions to reduce manufacturing risk.

  • Work with engineering and production to assist in the building of pre-production systems to ensure a smooth transition to manufacturing.

  • As required, coordinate, approve and authorize (as appropriate) the release of drawings and specifications from engineering to production.

  • Coordinate, initiate, review, and approve (as appropriate) ECO's for all related products. Ensure that all ECO's are written to adhere to all specification, configuration, and regulatory requirements.

  • Create, develop, and maintain manufacturing documentation concerning fixtures, testing, maintenance, manufacturing floor layout, process flows and acceptance criteria for all products. Recommend changes to the process flow in order to optimize manufacturing yield, performance and efficiency.

  • Monitor procurement of test fixtures for mechanical and optical sub-assemblies, as required, to support Engineering and Manufacturing.

  • Provide production technicians with training and knowledge of laser production processes.

  • Monitor the New Product Introduction (NPI) process throughout the design and release-to-manufacturing stages of new development projects.

  • Participate on the material review board (in process and incoming) to determine the disposition of non-conforming materials

  • Investigate production related failures and provide corrective actions.

  • Compile and analyze statistical data to evaluate process performance and supplier quality.

  • Develop, maintain and improve incoming test and inspection processes, procedures, equipment and standards.

  • Help recommend new and alternate sources of supply.

  • Interface with field service and quality to evaluate documented failures and assist in developing corrective actions to improve product reliability.

  • Provide support for other departments, as required, to ensure manufacturing requirements and production objectives have been met.

  • Assist Global Trade Compliance (GTC) with export classifications for parts and products.

  • Perform other job-related duties as required.
