POSITION SUMMARY

Working under the supervision of Senior Manager, Maintenance and Engineering, in the Engineering department, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes. These processes will address capacity, quality, safety, ergonomic, and environmental requirements of the business.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design, develop, and implement new processes.

  • Provide required support to meet team objectives.

  • Develop and update routings.

  • Provide project support and/or leadership on the introduction of new products.

  • Determine labour standards and maintain production capacity model.

  • Contributes greatly to the plant wide cost reduction teams.

  • Develops and maintains process descriptions and work instruction to ensure ISO certification is maintained.

  • Materials testing/planning.

  • Technical reports.

  • Become an active participant and contributor to the continuous improvements process at Knoll.

  • Follow MillerKnoll disposal procedures for proper disposal of items

  • Follow shop floor controls

  • Perform required quality inspections and report non-conform parts immediately

  • Ensure all production, safety and quality related issues are communicated to the Facilitator or Work Team Leader

  • Follow all MillerKnoll safety policies and protocols

  • Maintain a clean, safe, working environment according to 5s principles and department safety guidelines

  • Maintain and follow the ISO standard operating procedures

  • Participate in and contribute to the continuous improvement process

*Additional responsibilities as requested by Management to achieve business objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (P. Eng. designation is desirable)

  • Minimum 2-4 years of progressive experience in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Black Belt or Lean Belt Certification preferred.

  • Experience with or Knowledge of furniture / woodworking and/or finishing is considered an asset

  • Experience in continuous improvement activities will be required. This includes using tools such as kaizens, mistake proofing, establishing standard work practices, problem solving, pull systems, 5S, setup reduction, TPM, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing operations, environmental compliance, industrial hazard and communication.

  • Well versed in OSHA regulations and ISO 14000 auditing and implementation.

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001/9001 required.

  • Must be proficient in English (both written and verbal)

  • Ability to use precision measuring tools including tape measure

  • Ability to consistently demonstrate a high attention to detail

  • Computer proficiency with the ability to manipulate and save files

  • Ability to manipulate mathematical data using addition, multiplication and subtraction

  • Strong skills in: Leadership; Lean; Management; Qualitative and Quantitative Assessment; Presentation; Analytical.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to complete work tasks that require strong manual dexterity

  • Must be able to stand while working for long durations of time, up to three (3) hours at a time

  • Physical lifting ability – routinely 30lbs, up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to perform duties while wearing all necessary Personal Protective Equipment as determined by MillerKnoll’s Health and Safety department

  • Must be able to perform in an environment with high levels of exposure to manufacturing noise, dust and heat

  • Ability to work in multi-shift environment including flexible hours and weekends, as required

  • Must have flexibility to work varied hours and overtime to meet production requirements

  • Willingness to cross-train in various areas and/or department as required

  • Able to work in a team environment and support a culture of respect and trust

  • Must be able to train back up operator to set up all equipment in area

  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and lead others through change

  • Must have the ability to diligently follow processes and procedures with minimal supervision

  • Able to take initiative to solve problems, where appropriate

  • Must be able to make independent judgements to determine best solution and obtain appropriate approvals before acting

Compensation range for this role is $75,000.00 - $85,000.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors. The company offers a full spectrum of benefits including Health, Dental, Health Care Spending Account, Life Insurance, Disability and Other Insurance Plans, Paid Time Off (including Vacation, Sick time, and Parental Leave), Holidays, Retirement, Employee Stock Purchase in addition to other special perks reserved for our associates.
