About the Role

As a Manufacturing Engineer at Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing systems that transform raw materials into high-quality finished products. This position supports operational efficiency, product quality, equipment reliability, and cost reduction initiatives across the manufacturing process. The role requires strong technical expertise, analytical problem-solving skills, and a continuous improvement mindset, while providing the opportunity to contribute directly to plant performance and operational excellence.

You will collaborate with production, maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to ensure manufacturing processes and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. This is an on-site role located in Niles, OH.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement new manufacturing processes, equipment, and system improvements to enhance productivity and product quality.
  • Analyze existing manufacturing operations to identify opportunities for process optimization, waste reduction, and cost savings.
  • Diagnose equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and performance.
  • Optimize production workflows and schedules to maximize operational efficiency and reduce lead times.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime and improve overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Support the development and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Assist with the installation, testing, commissioning, and startup of new equipment and facility upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and Company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, industrial maintenance, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical circuits, PLCs, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Experience using MES, SAP, and other manufacturing systems, with the ability to perform basic data analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and shift support when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Certifications related to maintenance, reliability, or safety, such as OSHA or CMRP.
  • Familiarity with automation technologies, advanced manufacturing systems, or Industry 4.0 initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected base salary for this position will be determined based on experience, education, skill set, and interview performance.

Additional compensation may include:
