We are looking for a talented Manufacturing Engineer Senior to join our team specializing in Design and Optimization for our location in Jamestown, NY. This role is 100% onsite. In this position, you will lead the development, refinement, and continuous improvement of complex manufacturing and assembly processes to support safe, efficient, and high‑quality operations. You will provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and technicians, guiding the team in problem‑solving, process optimization, and the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies. Collaboration is a core part of this role, as you will work closely with cross‑functional partners to align equipment needs, production schedules, cost‑reduction initiatives, and long‑term strategic objectives. You will play an integral role in troubleshooting high‑impact issues, driving productivity improvements, and ensuring that manufacturing systems meet both current operational demands and future capability requirements.

This role requires a strong technical foundation, typically supported by a degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Candidates should bring 5 years of experience in manufacturing or assembly engineering, demonstrating success in process improvement, capital project execution, and project leadership. Experience with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and advanced CAD/CAM tools is highly valuable. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills are essential, as this role involves coaching others and guiding decision‑making across multiple teams. Preferred candidates will also have hands‑on experience with CNC metal cutting and processing equipment, supporting advanced manufacturing solutions in a high‑performance production environment.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Project Leadership: Lead end‑to‑end execution of assigned manufacturing projects, ensuring all safety, quality, and production requirements are achieved.
  • Manufacturing Process Development: Apply advanced manufacturing principles to design, optimize, and implement processes that meet business and product goals.
  • Process & Equipment Improvement: Drive continuous enhancements to manufacturing equipment and workflows to elevate efficiency, reliability, and consistency.
  • Standards & Compliance: Utilize continuous improvement methodologies and ensure alignment with Cummins manufacturing standards and operating practices.
  • Cross‑Functional Communication: Lead communication efforts, influencing key business leaders, functional partners, and external stakeholders to support project objectives.
  • Resource Collaboration: Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams and external partners to deliver on specific project assignments and timelines.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide advanced technical knowledge in manufacturing principles as applied within Cummins, helping guide strategic process decisions.
  • Stakeholder Coaching: Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and offer coaching to build capability, alignment, and long-term success.

  • Structured Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement: Uses systematic, data‑driven methods to identify root causes, develop durable solutions, improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance overall operational performance.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required. 
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. 

Experience: 

  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and advanced CAD/CAM tools is highly valued. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as the role requires influencing across multiple teams and coaching others to achieve operational excellence. Preferred candidates will have experience with CNC metal cutting/processing equipment
