Job Summary
PROCESS ENGINEER – ASSEMBLY AND PROCESS OPTIMIZATION
BOXABL is seeking a talented and motivated Manufacturing Engineer - Assembly and Process Optimization to join our team. The Manufacturing Engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing our production processes, ensuring product quality, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing engineering, with experience in lean manufacturing principles, process optimization, and product development.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Time Study & Labor Standards
• Conduct time studies and establish labor standards across all assembly operations
• Develop and maintain a Methods-Time Measurement (MTM) or equivalent work measurement system
• Use labor data to identify capacity constraints, imbalances, and efficiency opportunities
• Build and maintain standard work documentation tied to labor standards
Process Development & Documentation
• Define and document assembly sequences, work instructions, and process flows from the ground up
• Evaluate current assembly methods and redesign for efficiency, quality, and repeatability
• Develop and maintain process maps, value stream maps, and routing documentation
• Partner with manufacturing engineering and design engineering on DFA (Design for Assembly) reviews
Lean & Waste Elimination
• Lead kaizen events and rapid improvement workshops targeting assembly cycle time and waste reduction
• Apply value stream mapping to identify and eliminate non-value-added activity across the assembly line
• Implement and sustain 5S and visual management systems on the production floor
• Track and report key metrics: OEE, cycle time, labor efficiency, and throughput
Ergonomics & Workstation Design
• Assess workstations for ergonomic risk and drive improvement through layout and tooling changes
• Design and specify workstation fixtures, tooling, and material presentation to reduce motion and fatigue
• Collaborate with safety to ensure new and modified workstations meet ergonomic and regulatory standards
Line Balancing & Capacity Planning
• Balance assembly line operations to takt time and optimize operator utilization across stations
• Model capacity scenarios to support production planning
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks through data analysis and process redesign
Qualifications
Experience and Education
- BS in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 3–10 years of experience in assembly process engineering or industrial engineering in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrated experience conducting time studies and establishing labor standards
- Proficiency with lean manufacturing tools: VSM, 5S, kaizen, line balancing, standard work
- Strong analytical skills with ability to translate data into actionable process improvements
- Experience creating and maintaining detailed process documentation and work instructions
- Effective written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working in a shop-floor environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification
- Familiarity with simulation or digital twin tools for process modeling
- Experience with ERP or MES systems for routing, labor capture, and production tracking
- Background standing up new assembly lines
