Manufacturing Engineer, Plant Layout
Role Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer, Plant Layout is responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining factory layouts to support safe, efficient, and scalable manufacturing operations. This role focuses on equipment placement, material flow, and space utilization, using CAD tools to translate process requirements into practical, high-performing physical systems.
This role reports to the Senior Manager, Operational Excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Factory Layout & Design
Develop and maintain 2D factory layouts using AutoCAD
Design equipment placement, line configurations, and production areas
Ensure layouts optimize material flow, labor efficiency, and safety
Create clear, accurate drawings for cross-functional use
Installation
Serve as the owner of layout accuracy on the factory floor, ensuring equipment is installed per exact drawing dimensions
Translate CAD layouts into physical floor markings (taping, marking) to prepare for equipment installation and line changes
Partner with operations and vendors during installation to verify real-time alignment to layout drawings and post-installation sign-off
Space Utilization
Improve space utilization across production and warehouse interfaces
Eliminate unnecessary movement and handling through layout improvements
Capital Projects & Facility Changes
Support capital projects with layout development, scenario analysis, and documentation
Collaborate with engineering and project teams during planning and execution phases
Ensure alignment between design intent and on-site implementation
Standards & Documentation
Apply and uphold established facility layout standards (clearances, spacing, access, safety)
Ensure drawings reflect accurate as-built conditions
Maintain up-to-date facility documentation and layout files
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering field
1-3 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or facility design
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for factory layout design
Experience designing layouts for production lines, equipment, and material flow
Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
Preferred / Nice to Have
Experience in high-throughput manufacturing environments (e.g., food, CPG, packaging)
Familiarity with facility expansions, line commissioning, or capital project execution
Experience collaborating with external vendors, integrators, or contractors
