As a Manufacturing Engineer, you are responsible for developing and maintaining methods, operating sequences, and processes in the fabrication of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. You'll work closely with other engineering functions to coordinate the release of product improvements and new products, and you'll use engineering principles to estimate and reduce manufacturing costs, improve product quality, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements. Your expertise in lean principles, automation, and continuous improvement will be instrumental in driving operational excellence and achieving higher levels of productivity and cost-effectiveness. You'll develop and use test procedures, evaluate test results, and assess work methods, procedures, and policies to identify root cause issues and solutions that ensure operational success.

Role Overview

As a Manufacturing Engineer at Applied Materials - Munich office, you will play a key role in shaping stable, efficient, and scalable manufacturing operations across assembly and test. You will work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, supporting both current production and new product introductions.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve manufacturing methods, processes, work instructions, and operating sequences for assemblies, modules, and systems.

  • Support products throughout the lifecycle, including new product introduction (NPI), production ramp-up, and sustaining manufacturing activities.

  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving methodologies, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Create, maintain, and update manufacturing documentation, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with production requirements.

  • Support engineering change implementation activities, assessing impacts on manufacturing processes, quality, cost, and delivery performance.

  • Contribute to Design for Excellence (DFx) initiatives by providing manufacturing expertise to improve product quality, manufacturability, cost, and operational efficiency.

  • Provide hands-on technical support to production teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to ensure efficient and stable operations.

  • Participate in controlled builds, process validations, production transfers, and ramp activities to support successful product introduction and sustained production.

  • Design, develop, and validate manufacturing solutions, including tooling, fixtures, and process improvements that enhance productivity and quality.

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to drive continuous improvement and resolve technical challenges.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret manufacturing and process data to identify trends, optimize performance, and support data-driven decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 3–5 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a comparable role within a high-tech, semiconductor, electronics, medical device, or advanced manufacturing environment.

  • Strong manufacturing engineering background with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and product lifecycles.

  • Hands-on approach combined with structured and analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing, process, and quality-related issues in a production environment.

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and build strong working relationships across functions.

  • Strong communication skills in German and English.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Continuous improvement mindset with a passion for operational excellence and technical innovation.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
