Position Summary

Red Cat is looking for a motivated Manufacturing Engineer Intern to support our manufacturing and test engineering team. This role offers hands-on exposure to how test systems are designed and built to support production — blending software, electronics, and mechanical fundamentals to help ensure our products are built right, every time.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers who treat the manufacturing floor as their customer, helping build and improve the systems used to test and calibrate hardware assemblies before they go out the door.

What You'll Do

  • Assist in developing and debugging test systems used to test and calibrate hardware assemblies, under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Support scripting and automation tasks using Python and Bash
  • Help with source control workflows using Git
  • Learn how to read and interpret datasheets for electronic components
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to team discussions
  • Gain exposure to build systems and cross-compiling concepts
  • Support ad hoc projects as priorities shift, learning to adapt across tasks

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Coursework or project experience with Python and/or Linux
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new tools quickly
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivated with a genuine interest in how hardware and software come together in manufacturing

Nice to Have (not required)

  • Familiarity with C/C++, especially in embedded systems
  • Exposure to reading schematics or basic electronics
  • Experience with tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or soldering
  • Interest in mechanical design, CNC, or fixture fabrication
  • Any personal or academic project involving hardware, robotics, or electronics

Working Conditions

  • Primarily based in a manufacturing/lab environment
  • May involve standing, moving within the facility, and handling tools or equipment as part of hands-on learning
  • Some tasks may involve lifting or carrying materials as part of testing and fixture work
