At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

This role supports the development and qualification of manufacturing processes for a new advanced hardware program at Blue Origin. This is a greenfield environment with opportunity to help stand up the entire operation from equipment selection through process qualification and rate production readiness.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Translating engineering intent and drawings into fully functional electromechanical hardware ready for test, qualification, and deployment by crafting manufacturing bill of materials and work instructions.

  • Providing DFMA feedback to design engineering throughout the product development lifecycle, influencing part geometry, tolerances, material selection, and assembly sequences to optimize manufacturability.

  • Defining end-to-end manufacturing process flows from raw material through final assembly and test, identifying critical path operations and process interdependencies.

  • Evaluating, selecting, and specifying manufacturing equipment — including winding machines, balancing equipment, CNC machinery, test stands, and specialized tooling — to establish production capability for new and evolving product lines.

  • Developing manufacturing processes for assemblies involving high-speed rotating components, stator/rotor integration, winding installation, insulation systems, and precision electrical-mechanical interfaces.

  • Applying strong mechanical engineering fundamentals — tolerance stack-ups, fits, thermal management, structural assembly, and precision alignment — alongside electrical engineering knowledge of motor/machine construction.

  • Providing shipside/lineside support on the manufacturing floor for both mechanical and electrical assembly operations.

  • Non-conformance report (NCR) generation, management, and closure addressing both mechanical dimensional conformance and electrical performance requirements.

  • Supporting introduction of new products by crafting manufacturing plan artifacts including build plans, duration estimates, production schedules, and tool lists.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university

  • Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role: (0-3 years Level 1 Manufacturing Engineer, 3+ years Level 2 Manufacturing Engineer, 5+ years Level 3 Manufacturing Engineer, 8+ years Sr Manufacturing Engineer)

  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification

  • Experience in aerospace welding to AWS D17.1 or equivalent aerospace weld standards (NASA-STD-5006, MSFC-STD-504)

  • Experience with mechanized orbital GTAW systems (Arc Machines, Liburdi, or equivalent) including parameter development and qualification

  • Background in both aerospace fabrication and ASME BPVC / pressure equipment fabrication environments — ability to bridge both code worlds

  • Experience with dissimilar metal welding (DMW) and transition joints between different alloy systems

  • Experience with electron beam welding (EBW), laser beam welding (LBW), or friction stir welding (FSW)

  • Knowledge of weld residual stress analysis, distortion prediction, and mitigation techniques

  • Experience standing up welding operations in a greenfield facility — equipment layout, gas distribution, ventilation, and weld shop infrastructure

  • Lean/Six Sigma certification or equivalent

  • Customer focused with a proven track record to work cooperatively with teams of different skills across large geographic distances

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
