Description

Under general supervision, the Manual Machinist will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

  

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform all duties below in alignment with Tri Tool’s Imperatives

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of the finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribe’s dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining, as necessary.
  • Selects aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications, using measuring and inspection tools as necessary. 
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. 
  • Designs and produces fixtures for upcoming jobs.  
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks on machines as required. 
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

  • Must maintain a neat and organized work area while maintaining safety and a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and take initiative to accomplish directives with minimal supervision
  • Contributes effectively as a collaborative team member
  • Effective, accurate, and professional verbal and written communication

Requirements

  • High School diploma OR GED 
  • Experience or Technical Training related to Manufacturing
  • Five or more years of work experience in as journeyman level manual machinist
  • Knowledge of Cal OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulations
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints
  • Experience using measuring equipment
