NJ Advance Media, which produces content for NJ.com and the Star-Ledger online newspaper, is seeking a forward-thinking, news-savvy Managing Producer of Content Strategy to join a fast-evolving team dedicated to harnessing and optimizing the potential of emerging technologies including AI.

In this newly created role, you’ll be part of a dynamic group of managing producers who lead fast-paced, high-volume coverage of the stories people in New Jersey are talking about every day.

As a Managing Producer of Content Strategy, you’ll take a key role in driving newsroom AI initiatives, adoption and training. You’ll review and edit output from AI workflows as well as contribute to prompt engineering to build new workflows on a wide range of topics. You’ll be expected to move fast, jump on developments as they unfold and make quick calls on coverage priorities.

You’ll also play a role in managing reporters, coordinating closely with other newsroom leaders and ensuring our initiatives maintain our high journalistic and transparency standards.

This is an exciting opportunity for an editor who understands the nuances of New Jersey and knows what makes a great digital story.

The base salary range is $85,000 - $90,000 per year.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Work closely with and manage a growing AI-assisted editorial team
  • Craft headlines, thumbnails, and content with audience engagement in mind
  • Partner with other newsroom leaders, including those in breaking news, video, social, trending, and lifestyle teams to drive AI initiatives
  • Train others and share knowledge to expand AI and emerging technology adoption across the newsroom.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • A strong grasp of journalistic ethics, news structure, and compelling storytelling
  • Experience shaping coverage that performs across platforms and connects with a digital audience, with a track record of innovation and experimentation
  • Knowledge of best practices in digital publishing, including headlines, SEO, social media, and audience engagement
  • Familiarity with tools for content management, analytics, and social listening
  • Experience managing and editing reports
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and be capable of prioritizing multiple demands
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Experience creating custom AI workflows is a strong plus but not required.

This role is a chance to help shape the future of news in New Jersey. You’ll be a key part of a newsroom committed to excellence, innovation, and impact — at a time when trusted, local journalism matters more than ever.

This position requires occasional travel to our Woodbridge, NJ office.
