The Role

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Managing Director, Treasury Management Product to join our team! This position is responsible for setting the strategic vision, performance, and long-term evolution of the treasury management product portfolio. This leader defines the product vision, sets investment priorities, and ensures the portfolio delivers sustained revenue growth, competitive positioning and meaningful client value.

Guiding the portfolio's strategic direction, the Managing Director ensures products achieve commercial success, remain risk-aligned, and capitalize on emerging market opportunities. This leader fosters innovation and builds partnership with fintech and technology partnerships, while leading a team of product managers to execute portfolio strategy. They work closely with treasury management teams and internal business partners to deliver products that have measurable business impact.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Management 
    • Develop and own the multi-year treasury management product strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives including deposit, revenue, and client growth. 
    • Develop product roadmap and modernization priorities through market insights and client feedback.
    • Lead the full product lifecycle including ideation, business case development, roadmap planning, pricing, and commercialization. 
    • Prioritize initiatives based on ROI, market demand, risk, operational readiness, and competitive advantage.
    • Serve as the authority for the treasury management product portfolio including payments, receivables, fraud mitigation, liquidity, digital onboarding, and data/reporting solutions. 
    • Represent the bank as a thought leader in industry events, conferences, and forums.
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development 
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of senior product managers and product managers. 
    • Define clear product ownership, accountability, and decision-making responsibilities across the team. 
    • Build a culture of innovation, strategic thinking, disciplined execution, and client-first design.
    • Ensure the team delivers impactful outcomes while expanding capabilities in market analysis, product strategy, commercialization, and vendor management.
  • Business Growth & Financial Performance
    • Own the P&L for the treasury management product suite, including fee revenue, deposit balances, card volume, and cost optimization. 
    • Drive strategic deposit growth by leveraging pricing strategies, analytics, product bundling, and new liquidity solutions.
    • Partner with sales teams to design and execute go-to-market strategies that increase adoption and strengthen client engagement.
    • Define and manage product-level KPIs, financial forecasts, and performance scorecards to inform decision making and portfolio strategy. 
  • Innovation & Market Differentiation
    • Lead the exploration and implementation of emerging technologies to enhance product capabilities and client value. 
    • Continuously track industry trends, competitive offerings, and emerging technologies to influence portfolio strategy.
    • Identify and evaluate new opportunities to differentiate the portfolio, including real-time payments, embedded banking, AI-driven insights, fraud mitigation tools, and integrated digital experiences. 
    •  Drive client-informed design by leveraging feedback loops, advisory councils, and pilot programs to ensure solutions meet client needs. 
  • Commercialization & Sales Enablement 
    • Partner with sales, marketing, and product teams to define value propositions, sales strategies, product education, and client segmentation. 
    • Ensure products are designed for seamless adoption, onboarding, and client experience. 
    • Design pricing strategies that optimize competitiveness, profitability, and client value. 
    • Ensure go-to-market execution and sales enablement in partnership with sales teams leveraging tools, playbooks, and training to drive successful product adoption.
  • Operational Excellence & Risk Management 
    • Ensure strong governance frameworks for product risk, compliance, and vendor oversight across the portfolio.
    • Partner with operations, compliance, risk, and technology teams to ensure scalable, compliant, and reliable product solutions. 
    • Lead the integration of risk management into product strategy and lifecycle, collaborating with commercial bank and enterprise risk teams to ensure controls, assessments, and regulatory requirements are effectively addressed. 
    • Own and oversee vendor relationships, lead contract negotiations, and ensure third-party partners align with product performance goals and roadmap priorities.
    • Prioritize initiatives that reduce client friction, streamline operations, and enhance platform consistency. 

To be successful in this position, we require the following: 

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience leading treasury management product teams? 

The following would be a plus: 

  • Executive presence with ability to engage C-Suite stakeholders.
  • Strong track record of leading product organizations or managing complex TM product portfolios.
  • Deep understanding of treasury management solutions, client needs, and commercial banking strategies.
  • Deep expertise in payments, liquidity, receivables, fraud tools, and digital commercial banking technologies.
  • Proven track record of innovation in treasury management and commercial payments
  • Experience influencing strategy and driving transformational initiatives. 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive financial results, deposit growth, and product adoption. 
  • Proven leadership of high-performing teams and cross-functional initiatives. 
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills. 
  • Expertise in building business cases, financial models, and product economics. 
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of influencing senior executives and external partners.
