What You'll Be Doing

In joining Stifel's Venture Banking team, a Managing Director, Syndications is responsible for leading the syndication strategy and execution for venture debt transactions while supporting the continued growth and scalability of the Venture Banking platform. This role involves structuring and syndicating credit facilities, cultivating relationships with bank and institutional lending partners, coordinating transaction execution, and collaborating closely with Relationship Managers, Credit, Treasury, Legal, and Operations teams. The Managing Director will play a critical role in optimizing balance sheet utilization, expanding lending capacity, and ensuring the successful execution of syndicated transactions that support venture-backed companies across the innovation economy.


In addition to leading transaction execution, this individual will be responsible for building and scaling the Venture Banking Syndications platform. This includes developing the systems, processes, infrastructure, and team necessary to support a rapidly growing business while establishing best practices that position Stifel as a leading syndication partner within the venture lending market. The ideal candidate will possess deep syndicated lending expertise, an entrepreneurial mindset, and a proven ability to build scalable platforms, teams, and strategic partnerships.

What We're Looking For
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with bank, institutional, and alternative lending partners to expand syndication capacity and support business growth.
  • Lead the syndication process for venture debt transactions, including transaction structuring, lender outreach, pricing, allocation, negotiation, documentation, and closing.
  • Develop and execute syndication strategies that optimize capital deployment, balance sheet utilization, and portfolio diversification while supporting the bank's growth objectives.
  • Build and scale the Venture Banking Syndications function by establishing best-in-class systems, operating procedures, workflows, and execution standards to support continued business growth.
  • Recruit, manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing syndications team capable of supporting increasing transaction volume and expanding the firm's syndication capabilities.
  • Partner closely with Venture Banking Relationship Managers, Credit, Treasury, Legal, Finance, and Operations to ensure efficient transaction execution and seamless client delivery.
  • Identify, onboard, and maintain relationships with new and existing syndication partners, expanding Stifel's network of lending institutions and investors.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and enhance syndications products, processes, and market strategy while positioning Stifel Venture Banking as a premier syndication partner in the innovation economy.
  • Provide market intelligence regarding venture lending trends, capital markets, competitive dynamics, and investor appetite to inform strategic decision-making and product development.
  • Represent Stifel Venture Banking at industry conferences, lender meetings, and market events to strengthen the firm's brand and expand strategic relationships.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the broader Stifel platform, including Investment Banking, Wealth Management, Fixed Income Capital Markets, and Commercial Banking, and identify opportunities to deepen client and institutional relationships across the firm.


What You'll Bring
  • Advanced knowledge of syndicated lending, credit structuring, loan underwriting, loan documentation, and transaction execution.
  • Strong understanding of venture lending, commercial banking, capital markets, and institutional investor dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience building and managing relationships with bank participants, institutional investors, and alternative lenders.
  • Proven experience building scalable teams, operational processes, and infrastructure within a growing lending or capital markets platform.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, lending partners, and executive leadership.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally across multiple business units.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple complex transactions and priorities.
  • Understanding of technology and life sciences companies, venture capital financing, and the innovation ecosystem is preferred.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in finance, business, accounting, economics or related field required.
  • Minimum Required:10+ years' of related experience

Compensation RangeSalary: USD $225,000.00/Yr. - USD $300,000.00/Yr. Actual salaries may vary, and may be based on several factors, including but not limited to each candidate’s qualifications, skills, and overall competencies for the position. The base salary is one component of Stifel’s overall compensation package for each individual employee.
