Purpose of Position:
Managing Director of Data & Analytics (DnA) will be responsible for fostering a collaborative, data-driven culture across the organization, focusing on unlocking new insights and improved productivity with a focus on data accuracy, integrity, and timeliness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for the DnA team that aligns with Pantheon’s broader business objectives; Serve within the leadership team for the Pantheon Platform Innovation group
- Partner with leaders from Technology, Transformation Office, Investment Team & Portfolio Management and Investor Relations groups to refine and execute on the firm’s digital transformation strategy with a specific focus on data and analytics
- Analyze current processes performed by the Data Integrity Group, driving a culture of data accuracy and timeliness across the organization and Portfolio Analytics Group, advancing Pantheon’s analytical capabilities to deliver real-time, reliable, and actionable insights to stakeholders
- Foster collaboration between the Data Integrity and Portfolio Analytics groups to ensure seamless integration of data management and analytics functions, enhancing overall operational efficiencyCultivate partnerships with Pantheon's investment & risk professionals as well as with engineers and BI specialists to continuously innovate Pantheon platforms and processes
- Develop market-leading uses cases for data science applications and predictive models to support Pantheon’s investment and risk professionals
- Ensure alignment with the key stakeholders’ business outcomes, to Pantheon’s strategic technical architecture, and to the firm’s platform innovation strategy
- Champion data governance, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices for data management and reporting
- Develop scalable exceptions monitoring processes for the review of over 1,600 valuations quarterly, and the asset level data for 18,000 portfolio companies.
- Scale bespoke reporting and implement reporting platforms including self-service access to client reporting
- Partner with Technology to continue to enhance the Pantheon Data Platform, including data lake, data pipelines and reporting infrastructure.
- Partner with the Transformation Office to deliver & enhance Pantheon’s data & analytics product (“Prism”) as required by strategic transformation & change initiatives or by projects initiated within the Pantheon Innovation Lab
- Manage relationships with Pantheon’s software vendors, business process outsourcing firms and platform consulting firms supporting the DnA team to ensure Pantheon is a recipient of great service & delivery
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory needs, vendor offerings, and investment team feedback to guide product decisions and maintain Pantheon’s competitive edge
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for team members, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
- Champion a user-centric approach to analytical content creation, focusing on usability, intuitiveness, and overall user satisfaction.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the effectiveness and impact of data and analytics initiatives across the organization
- Mentor emerging innovators at Pantheon, helping to mature the team’s operating model and working practices.
Knowledge & Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Business, Finance, Technology, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, with significant expertise in data management, analytics, or related fields within investment firms
- Strong experience in managing and developing high-performing teams, with the ability to inspire and drive cross-functional collaboration. Experience leading and developing globally distributed internal teams
- Experience in coordinating and chairing large meetings with multiple executive stakeholders, creating agendas, coordinating relevant presenters and providing succinct updates to senior management
- Track record of working with and organizing data within private markets, investment and risk analytics, or other data management functions
- Experience in managing partnerships with private markets investment and risk professionals include collaborating on topics such as performance analytics, pricing models, cash flow projections, pipeline analytics, portfolio company monitoring
- Familiarity with performance measurement, client reporting, and business intelligence tools and methodologies
- Demonstrated expertise in data governance, data quality management, and the implementation of analytics platforms
- Proficiency in managing processes involving acquiring, storing, processing and delivering structured and unstructured data for analytical applications
- Familiarity with data lake concepts and tools such as Azure Databricks, metadata management principles, and data governance best practices
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with a focus on translating data into actionable business insights
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an ability to navigate complex data processes and organizations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Experience with change management and leading digital transformation initiatives within an organization
Experience in leading cross-functional initiatives, with strong communication skills, project management abilities, and organizational skill - Proficient in industry-standard analytics tools and technologies, with a strong understanding of data integrity frameworks
- Comfort with data analysis and basic understanding of technical tools such as SQL, Python, Jupyter Notebook, Unix commands, Hadoop, Spark SQL, Power BI, etc.
- Comfort with industry leading private markets software products (e.g. pipeline management, portfolio company monitoring, investment book of record, portfolio construction, planning & reporting etc.)
- Experience using industry standard product management tools and technologies, e.g. Aha, Miro & Visio
- eFront experience is a plus
This role is paying in the region of $250,000 - $280,000 per annum. Alongside Pantheon's wider employment benefits.
