The CIB Banking business is hiring a Coverage COO. The Coverage COO is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the business management, operating model, and strategic execution of the Investment Banking & Corporate Banking coverage franchises. This role will lead the Coverage COO teams, providing strategic direction, driving execution against growth priorities, and ensuring alignment with the broader Corporate and Investment Banking organization.
The COO will have a deep understanding of investment banking and corporate banking coverage models across industry verticals, including client relationship management, origination, and deal execution dynamics. This role requires experience leading large-scale transformation initiatives across front office activities, driving efficiencies, and enhancing risk and control frameworks.
The CIB Banking Coverage COO will report to the Banking COO and will serve as a strategic partner to the Head of Investment Banking and Co-Heads of Corporate Banking, driving initiatives across strategy, operations, risk, control, and client engagement.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Head of Investment Banking, Co-Heads of Corporate Banking, and Sector leaders to develop and execute strategic initiatives to drive revenue growth, deepen client relationships, and enhance franchise competitiveness
- Develop and implement operating strategies aligned with overall CIB and Banking objectives
- Oversee business management and day-to-day operational effectiveness across coverage teams and industry verticals
- Drive efficiency and scalability of the coverage model, including banker productivity & insights, content delivery, client allocation, and resource optimization
- Lead cross-functional initiatives including deal execution, pipeline management, and client engagement processes spanning client targeting and account planning
- Partner with Finance to drive financial discipline, business planning, and expense management across the coverage franchise
- Establish and enhance KPIs tied to client activity, revenue generation, and banker performance
- Drive coordination between coverage, product partners (e.g., M&A, ECM, DCM), and key internal stakeholders to improve execution outcomes
- Identify and mitigate risks related to underwriting, deal execution, and client engagement while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements
- Strengthen governance, controls, and regulatory compliance across investment banking activities
- Drive large-scale strategic initiatives including platform enhancements, data strategy, AI adoption, and workflow digitization to improve coverage effectiveness
- Develop and maintain senior relationships across internal partners including Risk, Legal, Compliance, Finance, HR, Audit, and International partners
- Support talent strategy, including organizational design, hiring prioritization, early talent & campus hiring, and leadership development across the coverage group (move up)
- Lead high-performing teams and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- 10+ years of Corporate & Investment Banking business management or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of Investment Banking or Coverage-related experience
- 4+ years of management experience
- Deep understanding of investment banking coverage models, industry verticals, and client segmentation strategies
- Experience supporting origination, pitching, and execution of advisory and capital markets transactions
- Strong knowledge of regulatory considerations across investment banking activities (e.g., underwriting, conflicts management)
- Proven ability to translate business strategy into operational execution within a coverage environment
- Experience driving large-scale transformation, operating model redesign, Infrastructure and Technology delivery, or business optimization initiatives
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with revenue drivers, pipeline management, and performance metrics
- Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence senior executives
- Demonstrated ability to optimize processes, improve efficiency, and enhance scalability of front office organizations
- Sound judgment and the ability to challenge business decisions and drive accountability
- Registration for Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted
- Registration for FINRA Series 79 must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted
- Registration for FINRA Series 63 (or 66) must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
- This position is subject to FINRA Background Screening Requirements, including successful completion and clearing of a background check. Internal transfers are subject to comply with 17 CRF 240.17f-2 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and FINRA Bylaws, Article III, Section 3, which states that Associated Persons should not be subject to statutory disqualification. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and are required to report certain incidents.

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
