Purpose of Role: As Managing Director, Africa, you’ll lead the ESCO Division’s commercial and operational success across the region. Reporting to the Vice President, Global Sales, you’ll take full P&L ownership, driving growth through strategic leadership of sales, fabrication, and service operations.
 

You’ll spearhead market expansion through both established and new sales channels, while championing innovation that delivers a competitive edge. Building strong industry relationships - both existing and new - will be key to your success in this high-impact role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive Commercial Growth & Strategy Lead the development and execution of innovative sales strategies to expand market share across Africa. Bring fresh thinking to revamp existing approaches, leveraging both direct and distributor-based models to unlock new opportunities.

  • Lead High-Performing Teams Provide strong, stabilising leadership to build and inspire a resilient team. Champion a culture of performance, coaching, and collaboration, ensuring alignment with Weir’s values and long-term goals

  • Customer-Centric Leadership Strategically position ESCO in key markets by monitoring trends, legislative shifts, and customer needs. Create a customer-focused environment that enhances satisfaction through tailored sales and service strategies.

  • Operational & Financial Excellence Overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance. Lead cross-functional collaboration, champion innovation, and ensure the regional team is structured and equipped to deliver strong commercial and operational results.

  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviours in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Extensive Commercial Leadership within mining, construction, or related sectors, combined with a strong track record of P&L ownership and strategic decision-making across complex, multi-faceted operations.

  • Strategic and Analytical Thinking Proven ability to develop and implement sales strategies, assess investment decisions, and lead initiatives such as greenfield developments, facility optimisation, and capital planning all supported by sound financial literacy.

  • Global Business Acumen: Experience managing international customer and supplier relationships, with a deep understanding of inter-company value chains and distributor-based sales models

  • Inspiring and Visionary Leadership: A collaborative leader who can engage teams with a clear vision, drive results through key performance metrics, and bring fresh ideas to support long-term growth and innovation

Skills Required

  • Extensive commercial leadership experience within mining, construction, or related sectors with P&L ownership
  • Proven ability to develop and implement sales strategies and expand market share using direct and distributor models
  • Strategic and analytical thinking including investment assessment, greenfield development, facility optimisation, and capital planning
  • Experience managing international customer and supplier relationships and understanding inter-company value chains
