This is an exciting time to join Remote and make a personal difference in the global HR-tech space as a Managing Counsel, Product (Please note, this is not a People Manager role). We are looking for a talented and eager lawyer, who is interested in helping with our team’s mission, namely: to deliver pragmatic and innovative legal solutions for Remote’s products and stakeholders, while protecting Remote from unacceptable risk.
Remote’s well established Legal team is a bunch of friendly, talented highly motivated lawyers from a whole host of different countries, with some awesome experiences.
As Remote grows and adds new products, the volume and complexity of issues scale across 90+ jurisdictions. You will be a legal partner to Product, Engineering, Privacy, and Security, with emphasis on HRIS and AI/ML features, translating complex rules into clear, shippable requirements and striking the right balance between compliance and commerciality.
More specifically, this role is expected to:
- Lead AI and HRIS product compliance, partnering with Product, Engineering, Security and the Privacy team;
- Embed a risk-based legal review into product development workflows;

- Stand up core Product AI governance (model inventory, risk classification, human oversight, bias/testing, incident response alignment)
- Qualified Lawyer: Seasoned lawyer with extensive experience on Product counseling (jurisdiction agnostic; multiple bars a plus)
- Product Counsel Experience in technology, with prior HR-tech exposure (EOR/PEO/HRIS/Payroll) advising at scale across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong command of emerging AI frameworks (e.g., EU AI Act, UK approach, U.S. state/federal developments, Canada AIDA) and their interplay with data protection (GDPR/CCPA) and employment transparency rules
- In-house Experience: Bonus - In-house legal experience preferred
- Startup Experience: Bonus - Experience in fast-paced start-up
- Tech Passion: Passionate about tech and HR tech products
- Skills: Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Language: Writes and speaks fluent English

- Draft and negotiate product terms, and AI-specific clauses as required (training/usage of data & metadata, output/IP ownership, acceptable use, transparency), in collaboration with Commercial Legal team.
- Proactively monitor new AI and tech regulations and translate those into concrete, actionable steps for product, design and engineering teams.
- Manage external counsel on complex, multi-jurisdictional issues; drive clear, practical outcomes.
- Deliver targeted enablement (Trainings or office hours).
- Partner with Privacy & Security on DPIAs/TIAs, incident response, and vendor/LLM diligence.

We do not agree to or encourage cheap-labor practices and therefore we ensure to pay above in-location rates. We hope to inspire other companies to support global talent-hiring and bring local wealth to developing countries.
At first glance our salary bands seem quite wide - here is some context. At Remote we have international operations and a globally distributed workforce. We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.
At Remote, we foster internal mobility as a key element of our culture of employee growth and development, supported by a compensation philosophy that guarantees pay equity and fairness. Therefore, all compensation changes associated with an internal move will be reviewed by the Total Rewards & People Enablement team on a case by case basis.
