Position Overview:
The Managing Counsel – Employment Law will serve as senior legal advisor on all employment law matters. Responsibilities will include day-to-day human resource matters for Tiffany & Co. locations worldwide, investigation and management of employee disputes, and compensation and benefits advice. The Managing Counsel will be expected to think strategically, work independently and communicate effectively with senior management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as principal legal advisor to the worldwide human resources team, and support business partners in retail, manufacturing and corporate groups with respect to human resources and employment matters
- Advise on all aspects of employment law, including hiring, progressive discipline and separations, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, restrictive covenants, leaves and accommodations, reductions in force, independent contractors, global mobility programs, immigration and wage and hour matters
- Draft and review employment-related policies, procedures and agreements
- Investigate and respond to employee claims, represent Tiffany in proceedings before federal and state agencies, and manage employment-related arbitration and litigation around the world
- Advise on compensation and benefits matters, including compliance issues arising out of the design, implementation and governance of health and welfare and retirement plans
- Manage outside counsel and oversee budgets
- Supervise legal assistants
- Support departmental initiatives concerning outside counsel management, budgeting and training and development
Requirements:
- JD from accredited law school
- 5-8+ years of professional experience with a law firm or in-house legal department focusing on employment work; mix of law firm and in-house experience preferred
- Expertise in U.S. employment and benefits law; experience with international employment law matters preferred
- Outstanding writing, drafting and communication skills
- Ability to use good judgment and demonstrate attention to detail
- Ability to deliver complex legal advice in a business-friendly manner
- Ability to demonstrate credibility in working with senior management
- Must be able to balance large volume of work through effective time management and prioritization
The hiring range for this position ranges from $182,000- $257,000. Management is also eligible for bonus. The salary offered will be dependent upon candidates’ relevant skills and experience.
This role is based out of either the New York, NY or Whippany, NJ Corporate Offices.
